Final Fantasy Cosplay Clowns

So, yeah I was looking up some stuff about final fantasy and I came across one of those websites with those people who dress up like FF characters and First off let me say its pretty funny watching these people dress up in FF gear but do they make themselves look that ridiculous on purpose!? I mean seriosly alot of them look terrible. Couldnt they replace those rubber belts/straps/whatever things with actual clothing material to make it look a little more real? So I guess my question is has anybody in the history of this dressing up game actuley looked like what there character is supposed to?

The closest thing I've seen is some who dressed up like Rikku after putting on a couple of pounds.

I once saw a rather good Squall and Rinoa pair trying to very subtly make out in the hall at a convention.

It was actually kind of cute.

I also know someone who did a very good Aerith--not only did she have a good costume, though, but she also had flowers that she handed out. It was a nice touch.

The Japanese have shops devoted to cosplay costumes and accessories. And websites galore that explain you how to make stuff.
Sure they're better at it...

They have that elsewhere, too--you just have to know where to look. A lot of it depends on the connections that you can make, really, or just your own talent/ability/willingness to work at it. And to be fair, we don't tend to /see/ the bad Japanese cosplaying.

...but seeing as how it's been done there longer, it's probably true that they're better at it in general.
