Well you're still in 2004. Emo stands for Emotional. It is a type of rock which is also called Screamo. It is also a fashion/ genre of people, like goth. Emo's fashion is a little like Goth without the massive eyeliner. Emo, as a genre, is bassically sad and may have some originations from the Goth genre. Like a Goth is always complaining about how life is a smurf hole and talk about dark/ evil things like killing people and blood. But an Emo complains about life aswell but in a sense of sadness. Usually heart breaks and such. Emo is the blue sad side of a person. Emo, in terms of fashion, is uhh..... umm... I can't really explain that. Sorry. But I hope I helped with the other bits of information I tried to lay out...

I cant stand emos just cuz they are so damn sad all the time... if your life is that bad stop pretending to slit your wrists for attention and actually do it... i have nothing against them as people just the way they act and pretend they are so miserable and that the men wear makeup

I was trying to point out to PiP that anytype of selfharm is anything but funny. Can we go back on topic now...?

Wow, you're all being real assholes. Suicide is not something to joke about. And if I have to go head-on with the site staff about this, then so be it.

Don't joke about it. it's not funny.
Yes, it's not funny - it's pathetic.

Hey, Dark Summoner, want me to meet you up with my grandfather? He's a Holocaust survivor, lost his entire family but his brother, had to escape through forests and Nazi-occupied territories, and fed himself by eating vermin. I'm sure you'd have a lot to talk about.

Or maybe a friend of mine, who had his mother, grandomother and grandfather die suddenly on him, his father and sister become diebetic, and he serves as a combat soldier? Maybe he could understand your pain.

Stop fecking whining, and stop wearing out razor-blades. Those are for shaving, not for shallow cuts on one's wrist, to show off on the Internet.

Suicide is not something to joke about.
Suicide? I see no suicide. I see only constant whining from people who have no real worries in life, and make-pretend so that their life has some 'meaning'. Go out and have a ball, for God's sake, smile a bit and live. That's meaning.

I'm only going to speak on my behalf here. In this very society - I have had LOTS of problems in my life. I have had plenty of real worries in life. I considered suicide in many ways. Not in a frigging 'oh mi god im so lyk emo if i du dis ill get attention' way, but in a 'I'm going to end this bull' way. However, that's past tense. I'm now happy with life. I have an amazing girlfriend, and it's going okay.

However, you do not have the right to have prejudiced views on others' lives. You do not know what their lives have consisted of, nor do you know what goes on in them now. No, maybe I haven't served painful times in the war, or whatever, but what I do know is that I've been unfortunate in this society. Some people still are unfortunate, and it's the truly-depressed people I'm concerned about, not those who whine to get attention.

I'm glad to hear that. I've had to deal with serious $hit and still do, and also considered suicide in my times of teen angst - but I never whined. Those were MY problems, not everyone else's. I dealt with them, some people helped me, and that's cool.

and it's the truly-depressed people I'm concerned about
You don't hear those people. A cry for help is healthy thing - truly depressed people are hardly ever capable of that. That's why people who constantly whine piss me off - it's not real, it's fake, and it's extremely annoying on every single level.

Good point. But what about those who knew me when I was in my state of depression? Although I guess they weren't going through the same thing, so I guess they wouldn't understand. And yes, I truly hate those who whine for nothing too. I guess every case of depression is different though.

But anyway, I'm glad I've cleared that up. However, let's get back on topic.

Y'know this is the first (and most likely last) time I'll ever agree with War Angel.

Using emo as a music genre was first used in the mid-80s to describe bands like The Cure. I don't know why that term was used. However, that particular genre died out a long time ago. People using the term emo to describe sucky-ass bands like My Chemical Romance and Hedley is a joke.

And I never use emo to classify great bands like Quicksand and Texas Is The Reason. It's insulting... I just call them hardcore.

This part isn't really about this topic, but I hate it when people tell other people that they have no right to feel bad about something because someone else had it worse. By that logic, no one has the right to feel bad because there is someone out there who does have it worse off than another person.

However, I do think that rich suburban kids who claim that their life is crap need to lighten up. Not because someone out there had it worse, but because it's just a waste of time to do that to yourself. I thought that I used to give myself a rough time, but man, some "emo" people out there really need to cool down.
