I understand what you mean. I'm classified as 'emo' all the time, and most of the time, I agree with the people who say it too. (For some reason, I think of it as a compliment. o.O) Just be yourself.

And to the rest of you, if you don't like 'emo' people, why don't you just shut up about it? Those who are classified as 'emo' (like me, for example) usually take that as an insult, and it only makes us more upset. If you have any jokes or insults, please for the love of God, keep them to yourself. We don't want to hear them.

Dark Summoner, I understand your point when your showed your wrist (it's yours right?). Cutting yourself really is pointless and embarrassing, trust me. And no, it isn't funny. No physical harm is, unless you're a sadistic jerk.

I hate it when people tell other people that they have no right to feel bad about something because someone else had it worse.
I didn't say anything about feeling bad - you can't control that. I do hate it, though, when people constantly whine and 'brag' about their 'pain'. And yes, other people's suffering is a very good meter for your own suffering - it's called proportion. When I feel down, I always think about people who had it worst, and how they dealt with it.

Y'know this is the first (and most likely last) time I'll ever agree with War Angel.
A sign for things to come? I certainly hope not. It scares me when people agree with me here. It's unusual.

And it worries me when someone here says something I can agree with.

My pain is bigger than your pain

I finally understand why people hate emos. But I've been in an emo state, and know lots of emos, and goths, who can be happy and optomistic. Depression and attention seeking attempts at suicide isn't a must. Its just... common. But seeking attention in that fashion isn't exclusive to those sub-cultures either. You hate underhanded (or possibly all) attention whores. Not emos, or goths, or whatever.

I'm now happy with life. I have an amazing girlfriend
Interesting you should point that out with your happiness. I think many a suicide attemptee can relate to that. Funny how that works out.

The attention seekers do it to get sympathy and pity and... attention from those close to them. Because for some reason they feel lonely. And the ultimate cure for loneliness is a companion. Affections and/or relationships will find the emo in you.

I wouldn't worry about it Dark Summoner. Who cares what they think. Besides, emos or whatever they call them (i've never heard of the phrase here in NZ) aren't at all that bad. From what I can gather, they are almost Goth but not quite, meaning they are the in between type. If their anything like Goths, then their not that much different from everyone here. All the Goths I know (including one of my best friends) are pretty normal people, its just their fashion thats different. I don't really see where people get all this stuff about Goths and Emos wanting to kill themselves. I've never known any like that.
Theres much worse things to be and to be called. Don't let it get you down

Um No that's Screaming Emo music. My friends have a Screamo band and my other friends have a Punk band.

My motto: "It's Life deal with it everyone else has to."

Emo kids generaly wear tight pants and have black hair or they might have "dyke spikes" (sorry if that offended anyone but that's what we call them). I've mostly noticed that the are histronic in sadness. Alot of "Emo" kids seem to be depressed even they don't have any reason to be. Bu tyes there are people who tried to commit sucide, but they arn't really emo they are just depressed. I don't classify the truly depressed people with the fake depression people. I live in a small town, you know evrything about everyone here.

I have emo friends, goth, punk, prep, chavs, losers, and normal people. I don't care how you look it's just if your a good person or not.

What he was saying is that emo music is not screamo music much in the same way that all pants are not jeans... basically yes, there is emo and there is screamo, but screamo only covers the screaming emo music while there is still non-screaming emo music which is not screamo. This would mean that you can't call all emo music screamo.

Hope that makes things a bit clearer. I think I confused myself a bit while explaining it, for a second there. x_x

Well stereotyping is always going to exist. I hate people who stereotype people under a certain category, or somthing. I find it kind discriminatory sometimes.

Like a Goth is always complaining about how life is a smurf hole and talk about dark/ evil things like killing people and blood. But an Emo complains about life aswell but in a sense of sadness. Usually heart breaks and such. Emo is the blue sad side of a person. Emo, in terms of fashion, is uhh..... umm... I can't really explain that. Sorry. But I hope I helped with the other bits of information I tried to lay out...
actually emo stands for emotional hardcore. and emo has been around since 1984 when a band called rites of spring started up and inpsired such bands as embrace and moss icon... and screamo is hardcore emo...like bands such as from a second story window and 12 stones...and emo is like goth in the sense of lonlieness..but gothic is more evil and emo is neutrallity...emo fashion is kinda like punk and kinda like gothic... usually tight jeans...died black hair (you usually do it yourself...i dye myself all by myself)...band tee's...either penny loafs or chuck t converse's...just ask me if ya need anything else cleared up...i know all about emo...slitting your wrists and being bi is the stupid emo sterotype...the people that think they are emo cuz their parents won't let them dye their hair and they listen to the used and my chemcial romance...those bands contrary to popular believe are not emo...

I know it's been on for awhile but it wasn't so popular. Over here in CT it bassically just started popularizing...
