Thread: Why does America produce amazing shows?

The sheer fact that Scrubs is an American show makes American TV so much better.

    R.I.P. Alias.

Edit: Wait, those sad smilies don't do justice to the extreme emotional distress I've experienced while watching one of the best shows I've ever watched in my life, go down in flames and become a horrible mess of a show. This one is better:

I watched the first season of Desperate Housewives quite often, but then for some reason I lost interest when the second season rolled around.

Besides that the only other shows I loved were "John Doe", and "The Amazing Race". I get the feeling though that I'm just about the only person who liked John Doe

I forgot all about John Doe! That was a great show, but I only saw a few episode of it before Fox switched time slots, did it again, and then cut the show because nobody could keep track of when the damn thing was airing.

Fox's motto: "What? They like it?! Better pull it off the air!"

Anyways, mark your calendar my friend. January 20th, 7:00 Eastern. Sci-Fi is running repeats every Friday!

I don't really like TV anymore. Whether that's because nothing good is on, or because I'm just kinda...over it, I'm not completely sure. I just can't remember when anyting is on anymore, even if it is good. Like The Office and Reno 911; I love both of those shows to death, but I always forget when they're on, or to actually turn the TV on.

I can't really comment on any of these other shows, since I've never watched them. I should, since they're probably good, but I really am sick of TV for the most part right now.

The only shows I watch on a regular basis are the original C.S.I, The Colbert Report, and Two and a Half Men, though I used to never miss Boy Meets World. I just can't get into all the dramas and mediocre comedies. However, VH1's I Love the [insert decade] = :<3:. I also admit to watching some reality shows (See; The Amazing Race, The Apprentice, and Big Brother). Mostly I just watch the History Channel, since it's usually very interesting.

Space: Above and Beyond. Those two examples alone make the ratings system a problem. Two of the best shows ever, cancelled. Also, though not cancelled., Millennium was significantly changed after season 1, and became suckier. Which is a very bad thing, because it was amazingly good too. And then it ended up cancelled entirely. So, anywhere which lets something average like The X-Files run from the Creation until Apocalypse, but not Millennium, has some issues to sort out.

HBO rock, though. The Sopranos, Rome (BBC helped.), Deadwood, Oz... all incredible TV. And there's stuff on other networks that's good too, such as Lost, 24, House, Law and Order, and C.S.I.

The only British TV I watch is the news, and various documentaries on BBC 2 or Channel 4. Most everything else is American.

Monty Python is the funniest thing to have ever been on TV, though, not even Family Guy can compete.

Oh, and I'll note that America has produced Babylon 5, Lexx, and The Outer Limits. That pretty much owns the rest of Earth's TV right there.

I don't know if America produces better shows than other countries, but what I do know is that American shows are the ones that get the most publicity, and thus more people watch these shows. Personally I think that Danish Tv series are really bad, but that is probably because I've grown up watching American shows and then I just like my shows the american way.

Lost and at least 1/2 of Friends are amazing. DH I can't comment on, but I know a fair few people with great taste who love it.
