That is a hard one...For me, it's a tossup between Sephiroth and Auron. Myself, I think Sephiroth has a very--VERY slight edge against Auron, because of some of his abilities such as Supernova and Pale horse. Auron does however, get his break abilities, but since Sephiroth is a boss, he would probably be immune to them.

For me its Auron. To me he was such a bad ass, but Sephys up there too.

Sephiroth is a whiney emo boy, he's only powerful because of Jenova, making him a pawn. That's right, a PAWN!
Cloud is even whinier and can't fight without a sword that's even bigger than he is. Some hero...
Squall is the most retardedly emo of them all because for no reason whatsoever and without precedent, he falls apart when Rinoa goes vegetative.
Auron's dead. That's pretty cool and all, but he doesn't actually do anything hardcore. He just stands in the background and talks quietly.
Cid Pollendina blew himself up to take out a few airships and help his friends escape. He didn't die from it, but he clearly thought he would. Suicide bombing FTW.
