    Default Author's Sex?

I am wonder which sex do you prefering reading from? Male or Female? Me, it is female all the way. Many female authors have a way of captivativing me whilst their male counterparts oftne fail at doing so. Male authors have a tendancy to over-describe the scenery and have choppy romances, whilst I find female authors devle into characters more whilst maintain descriptive passages too. Whether it is a novel or a manga, females tend to be my favorite. The only male authoer to get my attention was Tad Williams.

Some of the books I like were writen by men, some by women. I don't think the sex of a autor has anithing to do with how enjoyable their book is to me.

I am not saying that sex has anything to do with how talented the author is, but I personaly find that there is at times a difference between how a male writes and a female writes. Maybe it is just me, but I personally tend to enjoy female authors more as they tend to steal and maintain my interest. Tolkein is an awesome author, but he really did not get my attention until Two Towers and more so in Return of the King. Douglas Adams, I find is hilarious but again it did not become one of those "I must finish this book" for me. There are other male authors who I have tried to read their books but could not for the love of me get into them. So my intention of this thread is not to play a battle of the sexes between writing styles, just to see the tendancy of preference when it comes to authors.

Yea, I know what you meant. Its just that I, personaly don't see a diference in the writing style of a male and female author.

I read both, but the books I enjoy the most tend to be written by men. I can only think of one female author (Margaret Weis) that I really enjoy.

Well now ... I think before I embark on book-burning in protest against the " poofter " male authors, I'll address this issue.

You're just the kind of coarse, unimaginative Jack-the-Lad whose ideas of acceptable male pursuits revolve around swilling lager down the local and chatting up any " bird " unfortunate enough to find themselves the subject of your sordid intentions.
As far as you and your barfly friends are concerned, males aren't allowed to exhibit any kind of creativity or talent - males aren't supposed to be creative or intelligent, because that's the forte of " poofters ". People unlike you who, get this, are actually pursuing their ambitions instead of pissing away their time in some crappy-assed bar.

Really, it's because you're too much of a judgemental waste of time to believe otherwise.

    That sounded kind of gay

Anyway, everybody knows truly awesome books are created only through the contribution of two authors of opposite sex.

But then the only truely awesome book I've ever read was Well of Darkness so...

Not only did he take OM seriously he flamed him to hell.

It really doesn't matter to me what sex the author is, though I do read more books written by males because there aren't very many female authors that write the sort of books I read.

    Originality is good, kids.

YO! I know this is about books from what I've read but I also like many movies, anime and video games all of which have authors and most of the ones i watch, read in the case of books which I do read, and play and enjoy the most are written by men. This doesn't mean I don't enjoy writings by women justa not as many as the ones by men. This may also be due to the fact that I am a man and just spculating but men may enjoy mens writing more as a result of similar thought processes.

I really dont care or mind what sex the author is, as long as they are entertaining me. Ive read novels by 9 men:
    Terry Pratchett
    Philip Pullman
    R.L. Stine
    Lemony Snicket
    JR Tolkien
    Bram Stoker
    Shakespeare
    Dan Brown
    Steven King
And I believe (looking at my bookcase) I have more books by male autors then female. Female being JK Rowling, Trudi Canavan, Angie Sage and Meera Syal. Which is funny cause Ive never, ever checked before cause I never bothered to! So it looks like I do enjoy books by men, but as I said, it doesnt matter who writes it, as long as Im entertained enough to finish the book
