That was a plot twist, not the actual story itself, did you play the game?

The story isnt everything, chraracters, music, graphics, battle system, etc. So much better in FF8 then 7.

And? Just because a game makes it to EGMs top 200 games doesnt mean I shall enjoy it.

FFVII was released at a significant stage in role playing games. It was the first to step out of the classic rpg graphics and became a lot more real. Final fantasy VIII then took this further but by that time, it had already been done. That explains why it was in the top 200 games of all time.

FFVII didn't cut it for me. It was a great game but not the best. Sephiroph was cool until his mystery was unveiled. Then you go from town town only to be told that "you just missed the guy in the cape". And when you catch up to sephiroth, he had lost any fragments of cool he had left.
The characters, plot, gameplay etc were great but the game didn't flow well for me. Disc 1 was electric, then it just died.

I can also honestly say that 90% of the characters were dull in my opinion. Barret, the typical muscle who hides his feelings. Tifa and aerith had nothing to offer at all. Yuffie and cait sith are the worst characters ever created in final fantasy and cloud .....well he was just boring. Cid and vincint are the noticable exeptions.

Pfft......the chocobo game in VII was enough to make me jump ship. Stupidity at its utmost worst. I'd vote the chocobo game on VIII over VII's anyday. And IX's 'chocobo hot and cold' is better than both of them.

(My opinion btw. Just like to make that clear before I get a flood of hate mail)

i didnt find the plot twisters heart pulling by any means.

Ok, the thing is I played FF8 first. When I played FF7, I was disappointed to discover all the rave and rejoicing it got was undeserved.

FF7 may have been good for 1997. But now, It doesnt compare.

Those are my opinons. Dont get me wrong, Cloud and Sephiroth were cool, but not as cool or developed as the cast of FF8 and 9.

These are simply my own opinions...
lol that is the PERFECT summary for that game... I agree with all the above, cause that's how I felt too.

Guys, that was practically the whole story. The beginning of disc 1 starts the story, and then its go to town, " you missed the man with the cape ", go to next town, " you missed the man with the cape ", go to next town, " you missed the man with the cape "...on and on...

    I couldnt stand it!

    FF8 was way better

As I previously stated, FFVI is better than FFVIII.

Super Mario Brothers was a great game, but it wasn't an rpg so it didn't have to have a great story. Just had to have great gameplay which it did.

it was the game that made FF big in the US.
    Exactly.

Convuluted piece of crap? All FF7's story was this: me chasing a chibi model Sephiroth around the world as block that passed for a man, with cones sticking out of his head. Along the way I meet more chibi squares that pass for humans, and I listen to all the cheesy dialogue till the end...
It was 1997 please! The graphics were fine back then. And all FF's have cheesy dialogue...6...7...8...9...10 need I go on? Didn't think so.

You dont have to think that FF8's story was good. But FF7's was a recycled cliche of a story compared to FF8. Save the world, heh...heh...Thats original...
Um hello? A anti-social, anti-hero who becomes a leader and knight and saves the damsal in distress. That is VERY cliche. And it even had a happy ending aw how sweet. *gag*

There is no theory. The game clearly shows that everyone is having fun at the party. Raijin, Fuijin and Seifer are goofing around while fishing. Rinoa finds Squall and after the party they make out. Happy Ending...no one dies and viewers aren't left with suspense like in 7.
