I think FFVII is totally the best game ever, why? because the story was great, the music was great, the graphics were incredible when the game was made, and it really was the starting point for all the great games out there today! i dont think its overrated either. and if you really wanted to know some reasons, you should've put this in the FFVII threads.
I gotta say that my first RPG and my favorite is FFVII. I didnt knew anything about RPGs since then. A friend of mine told me that I had to play an FF. So he ask me which one did I wanted to played first. He has every FF and he recommended FF7. For that time I had a brand new PS2. I didnt care for the graphics, it was just awesome, I had it for a long time, I beated Emerald weapon and Ruby weapon, I got a Golden Chocobo, and even had all the strongest weapons and all summons, so I played for a lot of time, I didnt even care for new PS2 releases. Then, one day, my friend came home a take away hisFF7, but he gave FF8. After playing FF7, FF8 was extremely boring, but what I hated the most was that once you got to the last level you didnt had anything to do. I remember cursing the game for not letting me go back to the world map, then the game must have heard me. I finally founded the way out and I was like"Yeah, now Im going to______ city and make my adamantium weapons, Yeayha". Then the game said "You told me that I sucked, now take this!!" and when I got to ________ city, they were shield that didnt let me go in, I said "&*#@, lets try in the next one".
So, what I wanted to say was that FF7 was better no for graphics, nor music, and maybe not for the story, but because, even after beating the game, you could come back for more and DO things like trying to beat Emerald and ruby weapon, getting a Golden Chocobo, etc.
Plus, for me, Cloud>Squall, Sephiroth>Ultimecia, Materia>Junction system, FF7>FF8
Hey, Im giving it a chance unlike you, who probably never beat FF8 :rolleyes2 . Im reevaluating my opinion on FF7 instead of being hypercritical of it. I suggest everybody do the same, because there really is something good in every FF if you look at from an unbiased position and you quit badmouthing it like a little newb fanboy. FF8 is my favorite, but im not going to childishly bash FF7 anymore cause its not. FF7 has some good stuff in it, its just that I like FF8 better.:rolleyes2 Wow. And after all that debate about how 8's all perfect (not) *gag* you decide to replay 7. Not to mention absoulutey love 7's music. Just admit it you know they both rule. (And no don't be smart and say yeah but one rules more that's not how this is going to go down).

Personal attack?! Didnt you read anything I said. Im not going to bash FF7 anymore. Im going to appreciate it for what it is, not what it isnt. I like the music, the magic system, and sephiroth, etc. Just not as much as FF8. Im sorry I bashed FF7, Im sorry! AH! Happy? Good. Your right, they are both different, thats why we should appreciate them for what they are and not what they arent. Im merely changing my attitude toward the whole debate since an attitude like i had before gets nowhere and is very immature.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. As far as I am concerned, Final Fantasy VIII was the best in the series and quite possibly the greatest creation in the department of fiction. For me, this is FACT, not opinion, IMO.
