This is the second straight year that I have not had any desire to see any of the movies nominated for best picture.

It depresses me greatly that The New World wasn't nominated for Best Picture. SO I just don't care, cause the only other one I've seen is Crash. And that was superb, definitley, but I don't think it'll win.

    Sigh.

Wow, I haven't seen many of those films. I did see Crash and thought it was great, but all this Brokeback Moutain hype leads me to believe that it will win. There never seems to be any suprise best picture winner. At least Ang Lee can get the oscar that he was robbed out of for Crouching Tiger. (Gladiator? What the hell?!)

As usual, the Acadamy Awards come around before I get a chance to see any of the movies. The only ones nominated for anything that I've seen are Harry Potter, War of the Worlds and March of the Penguins so the only reason I watch this is to see what everyone is wearing.

I'm guessing that Brokeback Mountain will win. The Oscars have shown time and again that they don't judge movies based on quality, and I doubt that will change anytime soon.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

The AMPAS have shown time and time again, that they like to stay on the straight and narrow path. They've shown that they like a specific genres of movies and movies that play to certain demographics.

But to say that the Academy doesn't recognize quality is absolute BS. Seriously, absolute BS.

Yes, if Miyazaky doesn't win it's because he is not from US..

George Lucas and Revenge of the Syth got seriously snubbed, BTW

Your an idiot. Spirit Away won when it was up for the nomination so if he doesn't win this year it probably isn't because he isn't American but because they felt there was a better animated movie.

    Don't harbor such racist thoughts!

That said I hated Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and was glad it lost to Gladiator which I loved.

Like most movies wanting to qualify for the Oscars, The New World had a limited release just before the cut-off date in December but only just recently went into wide release.
