personally, I think all character have it's own power.
the only useless I think is aeris cause she die at disc 1, I don't need healing limit cause i already have healing magic and my party are quite strong. she made me screwed up at the temple. go to hell!!!

Yuffie back range fighting and morphing is important for tetra-elemental, she is needed to get leviathan.
Vincent back range fighting and decent stat are good but I just hate his limit.
Barret and Cid share same opinion from me cause both of them have super stat and cool limit (Cid is better).
No comment about Tifa cause she is my least favourite character along with Aeris. I just hate both of their weak defense, attack and limit.
Cait Sith opinion is good for me, I don't think he is the useless at all, If he can improve his limit break, I would make him my top 5, I like cat!!!!
Cloud is the main character and the most useful, his strength is superb like Squall and Auron.
Red XIII is my favourite character so he is exactly one of the useful character, he's good at close range, I wish his limit cosmo memory cause more than 9999 damage.

I use all characters equally. That's because I level up anytime I'm in the world map, and I level up in fives. So once I've leveled up the 2 characters, I switch to another 2. Though this technique gets Cloud WAY ahead of everyone else. When in a village or town, I will choose the best fighters, which varies everytime I play it.
