I don't think it ever will be either.
Anyway, I decided to vote for Maria. Her stats always go high pretty fast, at least in my games. Plus her agility is high enough and increases fast that when she has a shield on in the middle of the game, her evade is 99% or close to that.
Yuck. I hated Maria. She was weaker than a rock, her attacks ALWAYS missed, she never was useful...and so on. Firion and Guy proved useful to me.

That's because she starts with the crappy bow. I switch it out and have her use her fists. Level that up and any of the characters can do a lot of damage.
You can do a good amount of damage with a bow. Thing is, an archer's main advantage is their ability to stay in the back row and not get hit at all.
