Maybe Riku inherited the hair color from his grandparents although, it would be a little late to receive that trait from them. I'm not saying his hair color is bad, in fact, it looks cool.
Like White Swan said, hair colour in anime/video games make no genetic sense. Look at Chibi-Usa (a.k.a. Rini/Small Lady from Sailor Moon). Her mother is a blonde, her paternal grandmother has white/grey/silver and her father has black. Does that make any sense? No. Is it suppose to? No.
Riku's hair in 2 looks greyer, where as in KH 1 its like slightly differnet
It's anime. They all have weird weird hair colors. Take Pokemon. All the characters have colored hair.

I personally think Riku would have looked just as cool (if not cooler) with jet-black hair instead of "silver."

Really Hm.....his shoes bothered me more than his hair. His shoes and his voice. (I hate Haley Joel Osment with a passion).
I kind of have mine grey. It was purple, but since I could not find permanant purple dye ANYWHERE, it washed out, and the bleach kind of made it a greyish-white. :P It doesnt look half bad, either. (See profile pic for example)
And I thought Riku's hair was a blue-grey.....

some people in games and anime from japan with have all kinds of hair coulors like sliver blue pink green it's a japan thing and riku's hair is a mix of sliver and light blue not gray

See it is silver for it has natural white highlights in the light which suggest silver hair colour, for if it were gray, it would be a dull colour with no sheen especially not like Riku's.
