Ace14, remember where you get the Mace of Zeus? Excalibur II is on the other side of that room.

    Dead horse, but...

"1) Is it possible to get the Excalibur II by waiting for the clock to
    "overflow?

Yes it is, as supposed by Terence and proven by SoftReset. The timer will
change in color every 100 hours, but eventually it will "overflow" and the
time will start from 00:00:00 once again, as if you just began a new game.
Go to the Excalibur II spot and pick it up before another 12 hours expire
    once this happens."

From the Atomos199 ExII Perfect Game guide.

So yeah... I've rolled the timer over using a Gameshark, and it works. ExII becomes available again. I'm actually amazed that I never saw mention of it before, because it's such a simple thing to do. Rolling it over with a Gameshark is as easy as inputting two codes. I didn't know about it before Terence mentioned it, though. Terence knew it for sure. He isn't the kind of guy to suppose anything, but he never said outright "Yes, I did it," so that's why it says supposed for him. I took screenshots and made a big deal out of it, so that's probably why I received credit for proving something that didn't need proving at all.

And as an edit to clarify, it would definitely take a little over two years for a complete roll over that would make ExII available again, not 99 hours.

    Holy attack.
Provides Minus Strike, Climhazzard, and Stock Break

In contrast Steiner's next lowest sword, Ragnarok, which isn't anywhere near of a pain to get, has the following stats:

    Attack+87
    Added Status: Slow
    Provides Shock and Thunder Slash.

It's a bit of a joke that Excalibur II provides skills available on all other weapons, yet Ragnarok has it's own unique skill. Then again it'd be a bit cheap to have an "uber-skill" to go with your "uber-sword".
There is no signature here. Move along.

Notice the (theoretically)? That means that going by Terence's calculations, the timer keeps counting for 2 years, 98 days, 12 hours, 6 minutes, 28.2666 seconds, even though the graphical display only shows a green 99:59:59.

I believe so. It is more trustworthy than someone claiming the timer resets as soon as it hits 99:59:59.

Atomos199 managed to get the Excalibur II and all the misable items in the game, thus creating the first 'perfect' FFIX file. Click here and read his guide (Excalibur II Perfect Game Guide). You can level up and learn the abilities after you get Excalibur II.

i don't get it man. so IF you can get excalibur 2 again when the timer restarts, then why will i have to wait 2 plus years? the timer will restart at 601 hours right? so 601 divided by 24 hours (which is equal to a day) is about 24 days? right? explain more please!

Of course, you'll have gone through more than just through the different
colours, and into a number of graphical glitches, but it'll happen. (Or rather,
I've yet to test any value of the game clock where the counter *stops*
incrementing or caps, and I've watched it reset finally under test conditions
    over the last final seconds)

    There's just one final problem.

The time required for the clock to reset starting from 00:00:00?

    2 years, 98 days, 12 hours, 6 minutes, 28.2666 seconds.

    Have fun waiting.

Actually, there's only one main graphical glitch that I've seen, due to a logic
error... then it finally corrects itself after an hour. No idea if it ever
glitches again after that. It still doesn't *cap* though.

From 0 to 99 hours, the time display is white.
From 100 to 199 hours, the time display is red.
From 200 to 299 hours, the time display is yellow.
From 300 to 399 hours, the time display is blue.
From 400 to 499 hours, the time display is purple.
From 500 to 599 hours, the time display is green.
At 600 hours, the display glitches for the next hour.
At 601 hours, the display returns to 99:59:59 in green, and stays like that
    until the counter resets (theoretically).

And if you want to know how the number is arrived at... well, reverse the
process and work out how it compares to standard overflow limits of integers.
oh man is that really worth it??? i got it by skipping almost everything in the game and i thought it was a waste of time
its not like theres some ultimate abillity that steiner can learn from it
id rather take my time and enjoy the game, zidanes ultimate weapon attack does 100 8 less than steiners and he has moves like shock so thats easily good enough for me

If I was like Cloud I don't think I would have taken that test.

    Wrong.

Honestly? No, not really. It'd be far simpler to get it in under 12 hours the first time, or just use a gameshark/some other cheat device to give yourself the weapon.

tell me more about this restart thing. someone said that the timer will overflow at 601 hours in the game clock. and if so, shouldn't it take only 24 days to restart the clock? show me the light here buddy! help a brother out!

yeah it is simpler but boring and id never think about using gameshark or cheats for any final fantasy, i think it just takes the meaning of playing the game away

Someone's already asked that. Here's the first thing you quoted.

what does it mean by "theoretically?" (does it mean the timer keeps going and going and going until 2 plus years? has it already been proven?)

I didn't even bother trying to get anyone's ultima weapons, I beat the game with all my characters at levels 50-54 with just the best weapons you could buy. I'm sorta boring.

Yes. Just read the thing from Terence I quoted earlier in the thread.
