Yes he did. That whole "promise at the well" thing. He had always intended to join SOLDIER, but never did. But in his mind, he took over Zack's persona as insteaed of him NOT getting in, he made it to First Class.

No, he doesn't. That scene at the well actually occurred; it was indicative of a desire to join SOLDIER, and he left for Midgar to attempt to bring about that ambition. However, this merely implied a desire to join SOLDIER; actually becoming a part of the force would have been an entirely different memory, one he didn't have. The game makes this clear; in fact, the question essentially acts as the breaking point for Cloud.

After Sephiroth shows Cloud the photo of Seph, Tifa, and Zack:

nooooo you dont understand "boys from the dwarf" person you see when me or my friend (ashley) get a game that i dont or she dont have the person who owns the game plays it and beats it and gives it to the other to play.so im waiting on my friend ashley to get off the first disk so i can play it (since we're not very rich we share our video games "THATS WHAT I CALL FRIENDSHIP ") anyways thanks to everyone who helped me out (even though it didnt make alot of sence^^)oh and about the part where the screen flashes 7 times i think shes around there cause i remember her going "OH-NO NOT THE FLASHY LIGHTS AGAIN AHHH SIEZURE!!"can you tell me if shes near disk 2 or not?

ô.o screen flashed 7 times? Not very descriptive.....that happens a lot. Cloud is mentally unstable, and pften goes into seizures. Whenever this happens he trembles, grabs his head, falls on his knees, the screen flashes, and this ear-splitting noise is heard.
