How many freaking tonberries do I have to kill to get him to show up? Usually it isn't more than 18 but I've killed thirty and I haven't seen him once. I have, however, carded every single tonberry I fought. Do you actually have to deal a finishing blow on all 18+ tonberries for him to show?

I think so, that is one of the most funnest FF boss fights that you'll face, and I don't really remember how many you have to kill anymore haven't played in a while.

It's usually 18 to 20 or so. Maybe carding is the problem?

Yup, it is, you actually need to KILL them, thats the reason because King Tonberry shows, for killing a lot of them, and for carding them you don't really kill them, just "card'em"
EDIT: sorry for a lot of "them", they make me do it, is not me, is because of "them"!... upss, again hehehehe

Carding was the problem, unfortunately. I wasted a few hours carding those damned things. I killed 20 tonberrys in less than 15 minutes with Quistis and Squall. I wish I would have thought of this earlier.

You can refine the cards into Chefs Knives, which you need to have a couple of to upgrade weapons.

you must whoop 20 in a row, no going off and whooping something else and then coming back. The way I do it is to load myself with AP ammo or use the Kamikaze--->Revive method
