Harvest Moon help - Tartan

Anyone out there played this before? Long enough to know what I'm talking about? Its a long shot but the gameFAQ's forums on this game are nuts.

To the point, Tartan, and how to get him to work propely. Does anyone know? He's in Takakura's room right now but how do you get in to create hybrid seeds? Aren't you supposed to feed him two things then he spits out a new hybrid seed? It's just that, whenever I go to give him something he'll only accept one thing, I cant get him to take two.

I'm not sure I understand exactly how he's supposed to work. Help anyone?

I played it for about 2 days and I was aways stuck on things like this, so I eventually quit. I hope someone can answer your question
