    Default dvd on new comp

I just tried to play a dvd on my new custom built comp but I'm told I need a dvd decoder installed. Could someone please explain this to me? It's a new experience I never encountered before. Thanks in advance!

I think it means that your computer cannot understand the data on the DVD, are you using a DVD player or the CD reader.

I don't know of any free solution to this. I use POWERDVD, which needs to be paid for. All you really need to do is go to google and query "Free DVD Codec" or some sort.

I can play DVDs with Media Player Classic on my machine, which is bundled with CCCP which is linked to in my sig Whether MPC being able to do this is dependant on something else being installed on the sytem though, I'm not entirely sure, but it won't hurt it try
Problems playing downloaded videos? Try CCCP
