The largest maximum amount? Quina absolutely has to be gotten on Disc 2 if s/he was forgotten before. Eiko and Amarant make three. Zidane fought with Marcus before, but Marcus never actually joins the party until Disc 2, which brings the total to four. I'm counting party members by people you can actually look up in the menu screen, which I'm guessing it about the only criteria for such a thing.

3) Quina (you did say "can" join you)

B was the answer but you got lucky. thinking the way you were the answer should have been 5 because of beatrix but i count marcus as being in your party before as you control him in the first battle on disk 1.
i was hoping youd forget about beatrix and you did but you still got the right answer.
