Think logically. Sora and Roxas were unable to battle heartless with the wooden sword and the Struggle weapons, why? Because they were not strong of heart . . . yet. The Keyblade is Sora/Roxas' symbol of heart. When they became strong of heart, the Keyblade appeared. The other characters (i.e. Donald and Goofy) don't need a Keyblade because their hearts are strong enough to battle the Heartless and the Nobodies without it. That's why Tifa can battle them without any weapon.
The Keyblade chose Sora because his heart was strong. Had his heart not been strong, the Keyblade never would have gone to him. So that explanation doesn't quite fit.Originally Posted by Mercen-X

OMG, I didn't realise physically hitting something actually caused damage unless I was holding a weapon of some sort! I'll think twice next time I punch someone!

Also, speaking about her heart being locked away from the heartless, well, in that Cloud vs Sephiroth video, what she says to Sephiroth made her sound a lot like Sora! She preached about the light, and when Sephiroth dissed her, she lashed back at him!
