That sometimes happens to me. Like, when I click on the :cool: smiley it says :p in my messages, and sometimes there'll be three :love: smileys there. And sometimes the thread icons get screwed up too.
Also, now that I'm thinking about them, it seems like half the time the excited smiley shakes back and forth, and other times it just sits still.
