A. Final Fantasy was really a book from Ancient Rome, and it featured characters such as Odysseus and Jimmy Carter and Hermione Granger, who were all on a mission to conquer the land mass now known as Antarctica. Squaresoft uncovered this book on a digging expedition, and wanted to make a game out of it. Since a lot of the story was altered upon making the first couple games, Squaresoft felt bad and wanted to preserve some of the Ancient Roman story, so they kept the roman numerals.
