Thread: PC Problem

    Default PC Problem

I just installed FVIII onto my new laptop and the video and audio in FMVs skips constantly.

My laptop is no gaming PC, but it has specs well and above what is required for FVIII. I also used to run it on my old desktop and on my old laptop and it worked fine.

I don't think it's dirty discs, because I keep them very clean and unscratched. I've already tried downloading the non-NVidia patch since I have an ATI graphics card. No luck.

The only other suggestions I've found were cutting back on background applications (I doubt that--they do not take up much memory) or enabling DMA on the hard drive, but I thought the FMVs run directly off the discs so I don't think that would help even if I knew how to do it.

Any help much appreciated except telling me to buy the PSX version. That's slightly less appreciated. Thanks.

If you look through the threads here, you'll see many people - myself included - have had numerous issues with the PC version. Basically, it's full of bugs.

My computer is four years old and hardly a gaming computer either. I tried installing one of the patches that's available but that didn't do much good.

So, erm...no real advice here, but you're not alone.

Thanks anyway. I'm well aware that it is buggy, it's just odd that this problem would crop up now rather than before. I'm guessing it may be the discs after all, or maybe it has problems running on XP rather than 98.

Check the configuration settings for the game. That helped me a bit. I changed the viewing screen so that it's only about half the size. That kept the FMVs from freezing up the computer.

Thanks again, but I've tried changing all the config settings including quarter screen. The FMVs never freeze, they just skip a lot. Everything else works perfectly. If the 2nd disc FMVs run well I'll know it was just the 1st disc. Too bad disc 1 is my fav.

Maybe there's no easy answer, that's fine.
