I didn't do any junctioning either until I got to the castle gates and had to jump back through the portals to gain any decent magic to put in my stats because I didn't stand a chance against the guard monsters let alone ultimecia.
I only played Rinoa, Zell and Squall so Irvine was still on level 14 at the end of the game!
And I kept saying Rinoa's name wrong, can't remember how I said it now

I did nearly all of those things. It was my second RPG (threads of fate being the first...so i guess you could say VIII was my first because ToF wasn't all that good).

    Didn't know what boost did.
Didn't understand Junction (heck, who does on their first time through?)
    Didn't draw GFs
    Called Rinoa "Riona"...still do somtimes...
Didn't make it past the missle base...
    Tried again...
    Understood Junctioning a little better...
Survived on GFs only (still not drawing)
Overwrote game on disc 2...then again on Disc 3...

By then I was much better and kicked ass with the junctioning AND got all of the GFs and that good stuff.

I understood little about the junction command, never upgraded weapons and survived on high levels, Pheonix and Odin nearly the entire time...i got most GF's.
I remember sitting on the edge of my seat while fighting Malboro's going "PLLLEEEAAASSSDEEEE ODIN!"

I card modded all my cards the moment i got them *I only do it to Gilgamesh, Bahamut, Laguna and Angelo now* So icouldnt win high level cards...i did how ever get Edea's card with only monster cards and a GF.

I gave up Shiva's card to keep the Gilr Next door mag.

I called Squall Blabe...it was supposed to be Blade...

I pronouced galbadia Gal-ib-d-a and pronounced Rinoa Rino-aye *now i pronounce it Rin-Oh-Ah*

I sailed through the game until i reached the Mobile Type 8 *which i spent a year being stuck on(sad i know) Then on my second time round it was the easiest boss everf *While RaJin and FuJin were always hard*

I didnt get Diablos till disk 3 before cypher *even then it was on accident...i clicked the wrong item*

Very sad i know. If you all wish it...you ma laugh at me

it was freakin terrible. I borrowed the game from a friend, and it was the first FF I played since FF1. Yep, it had been a long time. I assumed it was just fight, fight, level up, stay at an inn like FF1 , and hence didn't bother to read the instruction manual. And I didn't pay any attention to the ingame tutorials.

I think I just auto junctioned, but I didn't realize I could draw magic from monsters, and I didn't realize there were hidden draw points I could find with move-find. So I would just draw from the non-hidden draw points. My stats were crap-tacular, to say the least.

As well, I had no idea about the extra GFs, and that you could draw them from certain bosses.

I do remember having a really hard time with Adel, but managed to beat her after many attempts.

I got to Ultimecia's castle, and was stuck there for quite a while, because I didn't have enough potions, I didn't have GF Tonberry, and obviously not his call shop command, and didn't realize I could draw magic like curaga from monsters. It was a disgrace.

Then my friend came and took his game back, and because of university I didn't get to play it until a few years later.

The next time I played it, which was just 1 or 2 years ago, I did it right, and owned it. And have ever since.

Edit: I also didn't bother with the card game - at all. I also had the gunblade set to auto, and didn't know anything about limitbreaks, until one day Squall started "freaking out" with Renzokouken, and I was like "WHOA!!!!! How'd he do that!?!?!!?"

Yep, it was the definition of terrible.

But I became so engrossed in the storyline, that my poor play didn't matter at all. I loved it, and was addicted. Well, I guess I didn't realize what I could have been doing in the game.

I have no idea how to draw GFs after Siren and never attacked. All I did was GF here,GF there. Then,at the start of disk 3,everyone was still at 30+ level.I never leveled up my weapons,by the time I fight Adel, everyone still has their initial weapon and I have no idea how to get items.i never card-moded.Auto-junctions.All I got was the first five GFs(namely Quezacolt,Shiva, ifrit,Siren and Brothers.I got my ass handed to me when fighting Diablos.)

By the time my friend told me the awesomeness of the limit breaks,I thought I treid it out.Man was it awesome. My second game started with a different perspective and I used nothing but limit breaks in the whole game.

on my game, i didn't have to check the PC! none of the times, quistis just agve em to me when she said i'd forgotten them and i was like "oh well, two easy GFs"

~~ and i still do pray for gilgamesh (damn you Seifer! *fume*) when it comes to Marlboro, unless i feel lucky

-I didn't know what Boost was the first time.
-I didn't understand Squall's limit break (I bought the game used so as usual, the manual wasn't included).

Other than that, I pretty much explored a lot, including the drawing of GF, and it helped that I had cheat codes from PSM.

I think I did excellent, and it was my second FF game! I recall even getting Eden! My favourite limit was Wishing Star - I totally owned the final Ultimecia boss with it! It was so satisfying to complete the game, but I don't remember any moments when I was majorly stuck. I gained most knowledge from FFVII.

Haha, on FFVII I was nine when I first played it. I didn't know how to run away from battles until a couple of discs in, so I was near level 99 when it came to the final bosses. I could defeat them all in a few hits, and I even got Knights of the Round!

OMG my first game that was actually the first final fantasy i played.
I did learn how to juction but the spells i used where really weak... i only got Quezacolt, Shiva, Ifrit, Brothers,Diablos,Cerberus and Bahamut...i got knocked down by Adel...and didnīt dare to use Rinoa or Irvine by the time i reached Lunatic Pandora Irvine was at level 16 and Rinoa at level 17 or 18...I didnīt know how to use boost and the only things that kept me alive where limit breaks and summoning i didnīt have any special weapons...eventually i defeated Adel by using flare stones at that time my Squall was at level 43, Zell was at level 37 Selphie at level 34 and Quistis at level 30 of course i had to restart the game after understading that i couldnīt get pass Griever...and at my third attempt i was already near perfection

Yeah, summoning GFs without boosting was pretty much all I did the first time I played the game
Same here. I was bored when I summoned a GF and started messing around with the controller. I hit select and there it was!? I was wondering what Boost was when it said I had learnt it!

i thought my first game on FF8 was quite good actually but :

spent something like 3 or 4 hours in garden at the start of the game because i couldnt find the front gate
i missed out pretty much all of the un-obvious GFs
didnt understand magic junctioning, so asigned random magic to them
    used GFs every battle
went card crazy and when i'd got loads just card mod them to hell
    oh and died a lot

    however:

i knew how to use boost straight away
    eventially defeated ultimecia
and actually upgraded some of my weapons

    Games completed:
FFI, FFII, FFIII, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXII
    (XI wasn't a real game )

I just remember being so dependant on GFs that Adel owned me in about 3 moves.

I missed Tonberry, bahamut and Doomtrain on my first go. I worked out the junction system at once (i mean it tell you how to do it) and the boost is pretty straight forward so i got that. I did everything the hard way though, i had no decent weapons or limit breaks, and next to no decent magic. I beat ultimecia and griever by casting triple and Tornado consistantly.... that took forever o_0

i went through till disc 3 leaving GF's junctioned to inactive characters. Also didn't draw Leviathan, too scared to face Ultima Weapon, spent about three hours winning Armadodo cards so I could get some Quake magic, couldn't find the Tomb Of the Unknown Knight, Duel and Renzokuken were left on Auto mode until disk 4...
    OK I'll stop now
