Well, they 'think' it did. They didn't claim it to be true, unless they have the French version or something.

Anyway, that's a plausible explanation. Cloud's name was changed to Clad in the French version. Not that it really matters anyway...

Rinoa is the accepted and 'right' way of saying her name in countries where English is the dominant language. But if you want to be technical about it, then Linoa is not actually a 'wrong' way to say it, at least I don't think so.

Besides, Rinoa sounds better to me.
