Seems like I just use the summons over and over to beat the mini bosses. Frankly, it's getting monotonous. Is it always like this? I mean, the summons do way more dmg than my spells or attacks.

Soon your lack of patience will overwhelm you.

Don't worry, late in the game, you shouldn't be summoning whatsoever, except for Cerberus if you got him.

Hmmm...this might be some kind of veiled and calculated attack on Final Fantasy VIII. But, I will take your word for it that you just started playing the game.

Yes, the gloriously vibrant cut scenes are present for most of the GF's you summon and they cannot be skipped. But you by no means HAVE to use GF's. In fact, one can probably get through the entire game without summoning any GF's at all- they simply add to the overall enjoyment and interactivity of the game.

To add: Boost is great for powering up Summons, since the animations are quite long. (I will not sit through Eden again, no matter how much damage it can do, and Limit Breaks are better anyway.) although like I said, they are only really useful for the first half or so of the game, except Cerberus. Especially when you figure out Meltdown + Aura = Yay!

GFs with 1000 compat come out in 2-3 seconds... I'd think they'd still be useful. (I havent started disc 4 yet)

Take a few battles to draw, and stock up 100 of every kind of magic you can. As well, learn your stat junctioning abilities, and junction your most powerful magic to your attack, and so on. Figure out your most powerful junctioning magic by trial and error. You won't need to summon GFs if you have the right magic junctioned.

Once you get quezy and you have the turning cards into items thingy and the turning items into magic thingy you can turn abyis (Or whatever the hell they r called) worms into tornados and those are good for your stats.
I just played loads of cards and turned everything into magic so I had a good range of magic to play with.
I also kept one player with low hp so I could use limit breaks all the time

Oh also when you have dialos (by opening the lamp and fighting him) learn darkside and give it to Squall or whoever has the highest level and that's a mighter attack

At the start of the game, I only used them when I got desperate. GFs are better concerning Junctioning and so it's FAR more important to use that factor of their usefulness.

Honestly, if you overuse them, then you're ruining half the fun. Save them for bosses (Especially the BF-thing at the Missile Base on Disc 2. That one is a bugger sometimes (at least for me ) Okay?)

Try to look past the immediate "Easy" route and dig deeper. I did, and I'm still digging. I love this game.

I've completed FFVIII twice and believe me, you won't be using them at the end AT ALL! Once you have the ragnarok (airship)on disc 3, go to the island closest to heaven and the island closest to hell. If you have Odin, keep running from battles and he'll eventually appear and completely wipe out your enemies giving you a load of Exp. Run away more often and he'll appear more often. There's also a load of draw points there so good luck finding them!

STOP!!! You can't rely completely on the GFs or you'll be sorry later in the game!!! Have you discovered the true power of Junctioning yet, because once you do, you'll go crazy with it!
Prioritize your Strength status, you should be able to get through using mostly attacks.
My first time through I only used GFs and Limits and I couldn't get past the Missle Base!
    ! !! !!!

    Careful now...

At the very beginning of the game I use Ifrit's AP to teach Shiva Refire Ice/Water magic, then kill the fishes on the beach outside Balamb. That will give you 20 waters per fin they drop, easily enough for 100 each... Give Ifrit to Squall and give 100 waters to Strength and his attack will make the GF look like a joke.

Not saying you should restart or some crazy, just giving advice through example. You just have to learn the Refine (and Card and Card Mod) and discover what turns into lots of spells, junction it to something most likely Strength, and off you go!

Alternately, you can just use summons over and over. Since leveling does nothing in this game you really shouldn't be fighting anybody but the necessary fights most of the time anyway, at least until you get Diablos's mug, which will give all the items you need for just about anything.

Just don't level too much too soon or issues can arise, as monsters level with you and can surpass you if you aren't careful. Card will give you AP but no EXP, essentially putting you "ahead" of the game. Once I have the airship and can run amok as I please I level without worrying about much anymore. I usually end up 100 before the end, but Squall's Lionheart limit break gives him a +50 to Sexy and eliminates the final boss with ease.
