    Default Red Mage

We all know that in DoS magic is important. Which means, Red Mages suck.

I'm a fan of F, RM, WM, BM. I mean a killer, a healer, and a multi-tasker. I gave RM damage and healing spells. Then I realized, he sucked at both. Now, I lay awake at night thinking "Damn, Red Mage is gay, what a waste of a character slot."

But I think I have the conclusion. As we all know, Buffs/Debuffs (Protect, Dark, et. all) do the same thing regardless of your intelligence stat, so I came to the conclusion to do a complete overhaul of my parties magic.

All that being said, I find a buff/debuff Red Mage to be the best use for him. What do you think?

I'll post my spell combo later.

All in all I use a Red Mage for a decent damage dealer that adds extra healing in the beginning of the game. It's my favvorite class, I usually play the NES version though.

I rarely use Red Mages, since I am a sheep prefer characters who are more specialized and good at one thing than okay at two or three.
Boy am I an unfunny ass.

if you get a red mage treat them like paladins or dark knights because he can fight well and can cast magic. i never found red mages that useful. i only found them good in FF5 because they can learn a lot on that. but still. on FF4 cecil could fight well and do basic white magic when hes a paladin so call your red mage cecil and treat him like a paladin. but still seems as red mages arent brilliant at anything on FF1 its best to stay away.

I was about to eat out your eyeballs for mocking the all-mighty Red Mage, but then I noticed that you've figured out that Red Mages are best served as buffers/debuffers. After all, why kill the enemy with spells if you can do it just as well with a big bad sword?

Red Mages are the second best class next to fighters. They heal, hit,\ with swords, and pwn with black magic.

Alright maybe in DoS they aren't that great because spells are basically endless, but in the original version he's awesome because unlike black/white mage he can attack when he runs out of magic. They're useless when they run out of magic in FF1. Not in DoS, I mean I had a Fighter, BB, White, Black party on DoS, Fighter with Ragnarok, BB bare fist, White Mage ultima weapon, Black mage masamune. Yes they can all attack, but that's an impossible party in the original, and they're never ending supply of magic, oh and in DoS, you get items that cast all the best spells so magic users NEVER have to worry about running out of magic. I mean after I got the item that cast Flare/NUKE, or Holy, I never cast them myself ever again.

DoS is a completely broken version of FFI. But in the original version Red Mage is a very very good character.

I agree with you that he isn't that good. But he is better than a white mage. He can Learn Heal and Life and has better attack than a white mage.

But he still isn't that good. In the end I just have him use the Heal Rod and he never attacks anyways.

I was about to flare the author for demoting the all mighty Red Mage, but then I noticed he said they had some use. Anyway, in my DOS game, my Red Mage is used as a secondary healer/spellcaster. He usually attacks unless he's helping buffing with Invisira.

right. I finally got around to finishing my overhaul. This is the best combination of spells when you have a RM/BM/WM/FGHTR party.

Who DARES to insult the almighty Red Mage!

He was always godly in NES/Origins, and wasnt as good in DoS, I used him as a back up buffer, since I decided not to use a Black Mage. He was excellent the whole way through

Please note that I insulted RM before I used buff debuff, because his magic sucks. I then redid my parties magiv with teh above configuration, RM is now god.

let's think of what the best spells in the game are...
got them in mind well I'll tell you.
    In the NES version
there is an item that castes INV2, or Invisara, which is the best item usage cast in that version, there are also items that cast Heal

    IN DoS
same item casts Invisara, an item casts Sabre, an item casts Holy, an item casts Flare, an item casts Healara

basically, all the good spells are available from items in DoS, which is all I'm saying. SO magic NEVER runs out. However when magic does run out on the NES version, Red Mage is still useful, therefore making him a better character than either of the other two mages.
