IGN gave Kingdom Hearts 2 a 7.6... That means they feel X-2, Wild Arms 4, Xenosaga episode II, and a whole slew of others are better sequels

If you go into it expecting something lighthearted and fun, you won't be disappointed. If you want a dark atmosphere, you'll have to look hard to find it.
