I brought up Edison because that was the first example that came to mind. I could have use Mozart, or Bach, or Beethoven, or Nirvana, or Elvis, to prove that your logic doesn't work.
Being the first to do something is called ORIGNALITY, and it’s very important when writing anything weather its music games books.
If there were a guitar rating system it would looks something like this
ORIGNALITY -- Skill -- Speed -- Style -- Complexity -- melody and so on.
Jimmy Page would have a 10 on originality were most guitarists would not......and even though Jimmy Hendrix isn't very good at all he would get a 10 for originality as well.
And when someone says something is the best IMO should be implyed.

Originality doesnt have anything to do with sheer talent.

I guess in a sense a guitarist cant really be orginal anymore just because everything has been done.Originally Posted by Crushed Hope

Page was playing guitar in the 60's far before "everything" was done.
...
The thing is that you don't know a damn thing about Jimmy Page. All you know is that he played in led zeppelin, and maybe you know of the yard birds too.
He did a lot more than you know of, he did it before anyone else did it, and he is the most respect guitarists out of all guitarists. Argue all you want but when Rolling stones, Guitar pro, Spin, Maxim, and so many others rated the Worlds greatest guitar players jimmy Page was in the top 3 in every magazine.
He played the guitar with a violin bow for god sake, and had Gibson Special make his world famous duel guitar, and most of the effects used by led zeppelin were never used in any other band before them.
And just out of Curiosity do any of you actually play the guitar, because if you don't you would have no clue on what is or isn't difficult.

I play guitar, and while I have to agree playing Page's stuff is tough, playing Stevie Ray, or Hendrix is much harder.

Michael Angelo Batio is the winner.
<a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7043744079476152944&q=Michael+angelo+batio">Speed Lives</a> is the greatest song ever.
Also, <a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3357006920437652568&q=flight+of+the+bumblebee">this guy</a>. He plays Flight of the Bumblebee at 304bpm.
Out of curiosity, do many of you know/like Gary Moore's stuff? He's a blues guitarist, he doesn't rely on solos as much as he does songs, but I still rate him quite highly, especially after listening to Parisienne Walkways as a kid. Definitely a different style to what people usually think of when they think of great guitarists, though.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Yes, Gary Moore is an execellent guitarist.Originally Posted by Loony BoB

Whoa, whoa. Calm down man, you're gonna get banned if you go round posting like that all the time, he has a good a point, he's trying to explain his point and opinion, at least let him be, the greatest guitarist and solo ever are a matter of opinion because it's unfair just to suddenly demand some guy is the best ever. Just relax and let it slide, I don't exactly have a top favourite guitarist or solo and that's my opinion.Originally Posted by Crushed Hope
