I totally agree with you, Mirage. In this case - to say it briefly - rendering would be, um... rendering a 3D image, often textured, and with full detail on the materials if that is the case, using a 3D modelling program (okay, that's a bad explanation, but it's hard to explain this kind of thing). You haven't rendered anything by cutting and pasting a character FROM a DIFFERENT 3D render.
