Default Dragon Quest: Like or loathe?

Ive got mixed feelings with this game. Yeah it looks pretty and the voice actings not bad, but I hate the boss battles. So frustrating because theres no save points near bosses and you can only save in churches in towns ... HUGE let down there IMO.

I dont understand why there are only save points in churches, its ridiculous and you cant save on the map or camp! And I hate the fact that when you die, half your gold is taken from you?! Gee thanks! Ive been playing for 2 hours and Ive been getting my characters up to level 7 in order to kill the first boss! WTF!?

Sorry, I was so exciting about playing this game and people have said its amazing and the best theyve played in years. How? How is it the best? Because so far, Ive only felt frustration with this game.

It's been that way since Dragon Warrior I. A little late to complain don't you think?

I have no problem with it.

    Same here

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

I hate level grinding and gold farming, so I am not cool with Dragon Quest.

Terrific characters, voice acting, presentation, and world that it pisses away in spectacular fashion.

There's not a lot required, really. The most I've had to do so far in this game is go up 3 levels to beat an optional enemy. I'm not THAT far into the game yet, but it's definitely fun, and it has a cool story. Also, it has Jessica. Not my favorite part of the game, but a lot of people seem to be into her.

Yeah, you don't have to be a leveling maniac. Maybe a few levels here and there, I don't know what everyone's complaining about.

Great game. Its only downfall is the levelling required.

And there is a lot of levelling required for this game. Compared to that of FF, anyways. Spending 2 hours straight just trying to advance a few levels, is too much, IMO.

However, when you do finally save up enough to buy that weapon or armor you've been penny pinching for, its that much more sweeter.

Still, the levelling required is far outweighed by all the good characteristics of the game, namely, the story, characters, battle system, graphics, voice acting, alchemy pot, etc.
    WICKED-AWESOME SIG.

2 hours? Look, here's what you do. You go to a place where the enemies give good exp, then just spam Yangus's Whistle.

Sapphirestar is right. I hate the boss fight against Kalamahri, and the saving in churches? That's rediculous.
