Why doesn't anyone give this game credit??
Seriously, this is my FAV ff game...and no one gives it credit! I like it a bit better thatn 7 even, and whta do you see? They are making all these sequals to 7? I think they should give this great game more credit and a sequel with more Beatrix! (And Steiner as the cherry on top!)
I mean even a cruddy game like 8 gets more acclaim, and that is SAD!
While I agree, a sequal might ruin it.

Is this a positive thread, talking about how good the game is? I've never seen one before... So this is what positive looks like in a forum. *Pokes it* Feels like a peep... Pink and sugary.
IX came out at the end of the Ps1's lifetime, so that probably had something to do with it... Plus all the character models were 110% cute and some people couldn't handle that much adorable all at once, it gave them seizures.
It was marketed poorly in NA, that's for sure. That, and the newer fans who'd never played the older games were kinda in for a surprise. Still, anyone who doesn't like this game shouldn't ever call themselves an FF fan.
every time someone starts anything like a "why does everyone hate" thread their always completely proven wrong. FF9 is my favourite game and i like it so much that im going to buy a memory card and fill it all with FF9 data at all of the different locations so i can play all of those fantastic part again whenever i choose. FF9 is a bit of a "you either love it or hate it" game but the majority of FF fans absoloutely love it and have it in their top FF list.

Second that.It's the first I ever played and I will never say that FFIX is a bad game.NEVER.
ff7 was the beginning of a new generation in the ff series. The only obvious choice for game that should have a sequel was ff7. it broke all the sales records at that time. and none of the games past ff7 have more credit. I agree too, I find ff9 the best game in the series. But its all about about money, and square cound not be sure if people were thrilled to hear that ff9 has sequel. but with 7, they did. if only all these individual wishes could be granted

True, all of this...but it's just that more ppl like 7 and 8, and I don't know why. Especially 8.
FFIX IS the best game, I'm sure everyone in here would agree. It's a masterpiece for sure, and it's the first one I beat...so it will always have a special place in my heart. I NEVER get sick of this game! It just makes me feel all warm and fluffy inside. None of the other games did that.

I'm not sure if it it's a new/ old Final Fantasy fan deal. I'm only 20, so when VII came out I was 11. It was the first Final Fantasy I played, and I didn't even understand half of it at the time.
But I became a fan of RPGs, not the number attached to the game, so 'the first one I played', or art direction, or combat system (where's my materia la la la etc.), or all that hoobla boobla doesn't really matter to me... IX is still one of the best games ever devised, and I played VII first ^.^; Gamers are just notorious for being highly critical of everyone and everything. Must be because we're all such hipsters

I was 6 years old and briefly tried FF7 on my friends computer. I did not yet own a PSX, so I would play it as often as possible. At the ripe old age of 9 I finally purchased my first PSX (out of about 3) from my local used video game dealer (I happen to work for that exact dealer now!). I went out looking for FF7 and happened to come across FF9. Well, it wasn't seven, but it was new and different, and I was 9, so I bought it (for thirty dollars from the same exact used video game dealer). I was overjoyed with the amazing game I had purchased and could not believe the luck that I must have come across. I played it constantly, non-stop, whenever smurfing possible! (Just so you know, I actually typed smurfing, it's not the default F-WORD censor.) When I got stuck (I was NINE), I went out and bought FF8. I almost lost all respect for the FF series (...I was nine). It was horrifying (I'm sure the fact that they weren't the loveable characters I had remembered had something to do with that....remember, I was at a young age). I guess what I am trying to say is, I am 15 years old and playing, probably my third copy of FF9 and still think it is my favourite. I blows all those damn PS2 versions out of the water. I will never stop playing FF9. Final Fantasy 7 is second only to FF9, but by a whole helluva lot. FF7 was amazing, but FF9 was extraordinary.
FF8 sucked man parts.
FF9 doesn't get the credit it deserves because the protagonist quite clearly has a huge wang hanging out of his arse.
Good game though.
