It's set to be the last game in the main plotline. After that, they're still free to make side-stories (Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops) and games that take place in alternate continuities (Metal Gear: Ghost Babel and the AC!D series).

Are we supposed to believe Raiden has become a badass after all these years? I like the whole Middle East setting and the cast of returning characters. I think this will be a fitting end to the storyline. 2006? 2008? 2007. Haha.
Well I've got a theory:
When S.Snake has his gun in his mouth someone interrupts him (probably Meryl). Snake won't kill himself I'm sure.

I think Kojima has already stated that Snake doesn't kill himself or die at the end of the game. This is just the last game in Snake's storyline.
