Ever had chocolate? Seriously, Vegemite looks no different to chocolate sauce. It tastes different, though. Judging a spread of all things by it's look, though, is plain stupid.

One thing I will say to anyone trying vegemite is to spread it thin, because it's a strong flavoured spread.

Vegemite is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacture, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste is difficult to describe but is extremely salty and slightly bitter, and as might be expected, malty. While highly popular in Australia and New Zealand, it has never been successfully marketed elsewhere. It is notorious for the dislike it generates amongst some foreigners.

I can't say I've ever seen this in any stores around here, and according to wikipedia, it isn't surprising.
