It's a "yeast extract" spread similar to marmite, only not as sweet and ever-so-slightly thicker. Bloody awesome stuff, especially with cheese. I had two vegemite and cheese sandwiches today! Dark brown stuff... almost black, but not.
I have quite the little collection in my cupboards!
