I personally think PC is the way to go. For PS2 you need the old fat-boy PS2s and lotsa extra crap to run it and they are notorious for breaking down. PC adds a lot more versatility as graphics go. A friend of mine that got the Xbox360 version after playing on PC for over a year says it's not worth it. He says there is a perpetual lag. I'm sure it's not huge but I know what he means of there being a very small lag instead of absolute smoothness. Definitely if you have a good machine PC is the way to go.

As for starting classes it depends on the type of player you are really.

WAR is good for the all around guy that likes to hit stuff.

THF I wouldn't recommend as being your first starting job as it is the most frustrating starting job of the 3 melees.

MNK is another good job for hitting stuff.

BLM is probably the hardest job to start but if you like blowing things up go for it.

WHM is another difficult job to be the first but I honestly don't think it's as bad as BLM.

RDM is probably the easiest job to start as due to it being rounded.

I disagree with the black mage being hardest to start.

but I do agree with the THFzorz being a frustrating 1st job to begin with.

I have to disagree that BLM is the hardest job to level. I breezed through levels 1-10 like a dream. Now WHM... that is a tough job to level in the beginning.

lol I only said that about BLM because I started with BLM and I was a noob. Subless BLM was so horrible. No cures... resting constantly. However, now it probably would be so hard for me with food and such. I'd say THF is the second hardest l.o.l.

    rounded.
I started as WHM, and it wasn't that hard...and BLM is very easy to level =/
It just depends what kind of job you like, I guess.

Yes the difference is in leveling a subless BLM or a subless WHM. BLM/WHM is far easier than WHM/BLM because of the full power nukes + cures. BLM/nosub soloing consists mostly of finding DCs that you can easily take out and then resting to full. I suppose it's just slower.

Once you have subs all jobs are easy to take to 10. Just sub WAR and eat melee food for all of your mages. WHM/WAR and melee away. Conversely from melee jobs always sub /WHM and use pie. A melee job with /WHM and a pie can go for obscene amounts of time without resting.

The only food you'd want to waste on those earlier is the Roasted Corn you wouldn't be able to get rid of otherwise, from starting to level your Cooking Skill. :P

I leveled both jobs subless. BLM subless when I was on the Asura server, and WHM subless on the Pandemonium server. BLM was way easier than WHM. BLM at least could just nuke and take care of business. My WHM would have to be veeery careful to choose prey that wouldn't end up clobbering me.

What race? Playing as a taru, I found the opposite to be true.

Ah this is true. That might be the issue as me and Beyond were bother tarus. I think the inability to cure myself and being able to take 2-3 hits before dying with no way to cure was what made it hard. I had to nuke it and make sure it was dead before it had a chance to hit me.

I just leveled WHM and BLM to level 10. Found it to be rather easy. =)

WHM can last awhile during battle, and BLM can't. But BLM has the spell Bind. So I just nuke, bind, run away and keep nuking. =)

let me just say my piece.
i played PS2 and it never broke down besides when my room was flooded(my bedroom is in the basement) and even after it being flooded(and a month of drying) it still works like new. my HDD still works too. which is the only downside to PS2(buying the HDD and package).

and the thing about the starting class. personally the only thing i had trouble with was thief.in the defense of your side though, i had very rich friends helping me out finalcially before i reached level 10. (i started monk and as soon as i started they bought me good stuff) and i was galka so my mp is horrible.(but i could take a hit) personally i dont think race matters in a job. jumping ahead, id take an experiienced galka or elvaan WHM or BLM over a noob taru mage. because i found noob taru mages will overcast and noob or experienced galka or elvaan mages will learn VERY early to cast wisly.
