Default .rar format

I recently downloaded some videos and they're in this .rar file format. Problem is my computer, which runs on Windows XP, doesn't recognise it. Is there any way to decompress it or convert the vid files to .avi or divX?

.rar file format is like .zip, it's a compressed file. Download winRAR trial version for free to extract them.

First you have to decompress them before converting them to anything. WinRAR is your friend.

Why use trial software? Get 7-zip instead, it'll extract rar's too, and it's open source Plus it'll save you coming back next time when you bump into .7z archives

I'll do that next time I need to extract some files. I'm not supposed to install things so I had to remove winRAR after I used it. Disposing of the evidence.
