A lot of the items needed for final weapons can be obtained with the ability Card Mod, in case you cant be bothered to go hunting and you're quite the card player

Squall's Lionheart:
Adamantine x1
Dragon Fang x4
Pulse Ammo x12
Adamantine - win from Adamantoises. They are found on the shore of the horn shaped island on the northwestern continent. Click here for exact location. When you encounter them, do NOT mug them. If you do, then they won't drop adamantine. Just kill them without stealing. You can mug BGH251F2 (the big, blue iron clad) at Fishermans Horizon. You can also mod Minotaur's card into 10 Adamantine, but I suggest not doing this.
Dragon Fang - win from Blue Dragon. They can are found on The Island Closest to Hell. I also read that they appear around the mountains by the Shumi Village.
Pulse Ammo - use Ifrit's Ammo Refine ability to refine Energy Crystals into Pulse Ammo. Mod 10 Elnoyle cards into 1 Energy Crystal. Mug a Blitz for a Power Generator, this will mod into 20 Pulse Ammo. Win Energy Crystals from Level 50 and above Ruby Dragons, and also from Level 80 and above Elnoyles and Behemoths. Win a Laser Cannon from Belhelmels and Elastoids, these will mod into 5 Pulse Ammo.
Rinoa's Shooting Star:
Windmill x2
Regen Ring x2
Force Armlet x1
Energy Crystal x2
Windmill - win from Abyss Worm and Thrustaevis. Mod 1 Abyss Worm card into 1 Windmill. Mod Pandemona card into 100 Windmills (this is a bad idea though).
Regen Ring - win from Torama, Chimera, Mesmerize. 10 Chimera cards will mod into 1 Regen Ring.
Force Armlet - win from Marlboro and Ochu. Buy it from Esthar Pet Shop with Tonberry's Familiar ability.
Energy Crystal - see how to get Squall's Pulse Ammo.

Marlboro Tentacle x2
Sharp Spike x4
Energy Crystal x4
Marlboro Tentacle - win from Marlboro. Mod 4 Marlboro cards into 1 Marlboro Tentacle.
Sharp Spike - win or steal from Grand Mantis and Death Claw. 1 Grand Mantis card will mod into 1 Sharp Spike. 1 Death Claw card will mod into 1 Sharp Spike.

Dino Bone - win or mug from T-Rexaur. 1 Armadodo card will mod into 1 Dino Bone. 2 T-Rexaur cards will mod into 1 Dino Bone. Sacred card will mod into 100 Dino Bones (not a good idea to mod this card).
Moon Stone - steal from Torama and Elnoyle.
Star Fragment - steal from Iron Giant. 3 Iron Giant cards will mod into 1 Star Fragment.
Screw - win or steal from Geezard. Win from GIM-47N. 1 Geezard card will mod into 5 Screws.
And in case anyone was wondering, I did NOT copy and paste this from gameFAQs. I typed all of it. I did get the world map from GameFAQs though, so thanks mabauti. ^_^

What works for me is...
Adamantine: mod the minotaur card
Dragon Fang: In Disc 1, go into that little forest deal that you have the 2nd Laguna dream while on your way to Galbadia Garden. After the dream, you can roam the forest like a normal one. You will find some Grendels. These look like dogs, kinda, that are actually dragons. If they are at Level 19 or lower, they have a 178/256 chance of dropping Dragon Fangs. Or, you could do the Blue Dragon at Shumi Village thingy.
Pulse Ammo: When Esthar is being over run by Lunatic Pandora, you will find a man lying on the side of a path. I don't remember which. When you speak to him, he will do an evil weird laugh and summon an Elnoyle. Defeat it and you will get an Energy Crystal which can refined into 15 pulse ammo.
You will need the 1st issue of Weapons Monthly too.

That's probably because Ruby Dragons need to be within a certain level range (specifically Level 20-29) to drop that item. You're better off with Elnoyle's, which can be found in the Deep Sea Research area. Failing that just win as many Elnoyle cards that you can. Ten will net one crystal.

That's either because you are mugging them or they aren't at the right level. Try killing them without stealing.
