    FFXIV Character

    Miah Mhakaracca (Cactuar)

Default New to the MMORPG Experience.

Ok, so I suppose I'm not new to the concept, being an avid Runescape Purist back in the day, but I've been looking to spend some of my spare income on a subscription based RPG. And I've got front runners in WoW, FFXI, and GW (I know there's no subscription, so this might be the choice.) I was just wondering about your views on the games, and if you could give me any advice. I'm on the board, so I like FF, and FFXI appeals to me. I also enjoy Warcraft, so WoW is kind of appealing.

    Your thoughts and ideas please?

WoW... good at first... pretty artistic enviroment...

*smudges armour on character* okay, now it sucks, but really, there is just lore and no real storyline for your character.

FFXI truly wins my vote, except for that Ugly UI (editable through macros)

its amazing, just a bit of an effort, nothings wrong with that, its called Diffuculty

Guild Wars, man! It has the advantage of only needing to pay for the disc, then free! So much better in the long run. Plus, then you can play gainst me! (and probably win)

Yeah, go for Guild Wars. Hold off on Factions if you want to play the original, and see how you like it first. PvP is top-notch in GW, and PvE is also very fun.

World of Warcraft because there is a new installment being released in June with 2 new races, one alliance, the other for the horde. WoW is the best on the list because it has a huge community thats forever growing and you can make as many characters on as mnay servers as you please, instead of 4 like what GW allows. You get to experiment with different jobs and races and new quests are being released all the time.

FF11 is NOT like the FF's you've come to love. It's a very different ball game. It's very much in the vein of traditional MMOG's, in that you have to spend a LOT of time level-grinding before you get to the good stuff. Of course the far-east kids eat this stuff up, but whether or not you'll like it remains to be seen.

WoW I've never played, so I'll skip past it. But I will say that I've heard from a lot of people that it's fantastic and very fun.

GW I've played extensively. First off, this is NOT an MMORPG. Not by a long shot. I'd call it a third-person action strategy. Imagine your common-or-garden Multiplayer game. Towns/Outposts are game channels where you choose the players. Maps are the servers playing the game. I don't even classify GW under the bracket of a MMOG, since you're limited to eight people per map (disincluding GvG or Tombs etc.). If you want to spend time building a character over time, getting better equipment and what not, then don't bother with GW. If however you want easily the most balanced and tactical MMOG out there, then try it out.

guild wars was fun for a few months then if got so incredibly old and borring, I hate the armor in the game and how there are no legendary items at all. FFXI is amazingly fun and awsome. I voted for FFXI

Factions has a better storyline (and it still includes Mhenlo and Cynn, so I am fine with that, oh and... Nika is amazing, Eve is also more involved in this game... you know, the girl who bit off an ear off a bully when she was a little kid? yeah that one) then Prophecies (its a little all over the place, still good if you play ALL of it in order, as in... dont go from mission to mission, do the quests at each location).

oh and, Oriental faces are so much sexier then English ones... oh, and the armour is badass... I have said all this before eh?

    *goes to play*

The only one of those that I played is Guild wars, and I love it. Especily if you are into PvP, you should give it try. What I like is that you don't need to grind for xp or 1337 weapons to be competetive, it is the players skill that counts. Even if you are into PvE its quite good, though Prophecies is much supperior in that department.

WoW was brilliant for the month or 2 that I played, but then I just got bored of it. Dunno if it's just me though. Thinking of going back to it soon, but don't have the time or the money right now.

I played FFXI for like, a day or 2 so you probably shouldn't listen to what I say, but I hated it. I don't think you should try this game based on the fact you like Final Fantasy. But again you probably shouldn't listen to me.

    I've never played Guild Wars.

    please try it again.

this time, talk to all npcs (you will never find out anything if you dont know what to do)... talk to tolerable/kind/helpfull/nice people, it will make your experience much better, then you would have gotten some begginer missions done, and getting your rank up and slowly delving into a storyline... oh and yeah, find a class/race that suits you.

Basically when someone plays for even 1 year they havent scratched much of FFXI, you need to play much much longer.
