theres an island near where the chocobo lagoon is (next to where you call the chocobo to get there) with a big black shadow on it, it moves ever so slightly and i cant see whats causing this shadow... whats it all about?

That's the shadow of the Chocobo Aerial Garden. You need a Gold chocobo and a Dead Pepper to reach it. The garden travels all over the place, so don't expect it to be near the lagoon all the time.
If you do venture in there, (SPOILER)watch out for Ozma.

it moves about all over the world map, like I said in the other thread the chocograph pieces give pretty baffling clues. As Twilight said you need the Gold chocobo and one a Dead Pepper. Use it went you are hovering above the dark spot and you'll shoot up into the hidden garden.

Yeah, it moves around. It is actually not that difficult to track down. And when you get there, be sure to take on the delightful boss "Ozma." He's pretty easy to defeat.
The shadow you see is the Chocobo Air Garden. Spoiler: you can only reach it after you have a gold chocobo and have a dead pepper. Also there is a secret boss which is supposedly the hardest in the game. There you go.
