    Flea.
Nomatter who you put him up against, i'll still vote Flea, every time.
Except maybe if he was against Les Cleypool.
I just love most of the Basslines Flea's popped out in the past 20 years.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bfMdTlaZAE Cliff destroys even Flea in a skill contest. Too bad he died so early in his career.

yo guys, Bladen and Venom, these threads are great an' all but could you please add more than 2 choices from two mediocre bands, there are a possible 20 options you can add to polls, it would be nice if you could use them.

I would say Cliff here, but i much prefer Roger Waters and Steve Harris

It's a BATTLE between two bass players, get over it.

Back on topic, Venom. Cliff vs Flea remember?

So what type of bassists, drummers and guitarists do you want in these threads Brian? Cliff Burton destroys Steve Harris though, Iron Maiden or not he loses to Cliff.

actually for me it would be anyone in Wishbone Ash (throughout there history) who has played the song Sometime World, fantastic bass solo

That is just sheer falseness right there. Steve is a great bassist, who is an amazing song writer. Cliff is a above-average bassist at best, who is a mediocre song writer.

Early Iron Maiden is a total testament to how good Steve is. Wrathchild's bassline > Metallica as a whole.

You only say that because Steve had more time to mature his skills as a bassist, he still is amazing, Cliff's career in Metallica only lasted about 4-5 years, he never had much of a time to prove his skill or get better. Steve is an excellent bassist, I agree with you there, but there's been more basslines written by Steve then by Cliff. I still stick to that opinion though. I'm just naughty with that type of stuff. for flea? Well I don't like indie rock all together and the guy hasn't done anything to impress me at all. Cliff just whacked up the bass beyond what a bass should sound like, his stuff sounds pretty well done, plus he shreds like a 220MPH demon.
