If your signatures tend to be slightly too large in file size, save them as GIF files instead of JPEG. With JPEG you have to lower the quality in order to make the file size smaller. GIF ones are automatically smaller without altering the quality much at all.

This is probably best for when your signature is about 10 to 20 kb too large. I dont know exactly HOW MUCH it decreases the size, so just experiment.

It does!. But there's a way to keep the quality of a JPEG high, and still keep the filesize small. Thanks to Zeldy for telling me how, she might tell it to you guys. It is really effective.

But, isnt that just putting the quality lower? Its on 10 instead of 12, and mine is always on 56.6Kbps. Anyway, the size on that screen doesnt represent the real size when you actually save it, its always a bit higher in the end...

It depends on the image. Lots of colours = bigger GIF.

JPEG will always be better than GIF, I have never once had a problem with file size and I constantly use JPEG.

I have to put mine down to 8 until its lower than 50kb, sometimes even 7 or 6.

When saving JPGs in Photoshop, I ALWAYS select a higher compression. To about 8 on a quality scale of 12. It's usually always under 50 bytes, sometimes even lower than 40. If that fails, GIF is the way to go.

Actually PNG is smaller than GIF. PNG-8 anyways[at least in my experience]. PNG-24 is gynormous.

And the reason why GIF is smaller is cause it already sacrificed quality to begin with. JPEG has good quality and good size. A VERY good overall format, though it can't do animation or transparancy.
