Wait til the training sessions start again, Rooney is going to kill Ronaldo badly. If we had Michael owen still we'd maybes have won. wait til tonight's riots

The thing is "hard work" and "better overall play" are worth nothing if the team doesn't score goals. Losing Owen, Beckham and Rooney must have been quite a blow, but 1. if the team doesn't have proper replacements, it's their own fault and 2. good players like Gerrard and Lampard did nothing except losing a penalty.

It's a shame to see the English team go home, but this is the World Cup, where the best team does not always win.

On a totally different note, if getting past France isn't enough, we'd have to beat Scolari's team and Italy/Germany past that. I don't know if Brazil can manage it, after all.

That's a sickening way to go out... I feel sorry for England.

But, at the end of the day, the best team won.

Rooney's never stepped on carval*i'ma*ho on purpose and as it's been said, if he sent him off just for pushing that prick Ronaldo (for who was given the red card motion), then it's an absolute diabolical decision.

England put in so much hard work, determination and courage after being down to 10 men for near enough for 60 mins. They deserved to go through.

England did play more fair, but I slightly agree with you. Rooney didnt get fowled, he had his arms rapped around both of the portuguese's legs. He then accidently stepped on one of the players' balls, and pushed someone else over. Red wasnt really deserved, but you've gotta put some of the blame on Rooney for losing his temper, it looked like he was shouting at everyone as well, something which is hard to tell when they dont have microphones attached to their shirts, but it looked like it anyway.

I said to my mates before the game started, if England lose, they'll blame the ref, so looky here. England played better with 10 men, or so it looked like to me, so I dont think having Rooney would have automatically won England the game.

Yes england put in a lot of hard work, but I wouldnt say they deserved to go through, Portugal still had more attacking opportunities, and IN MY OPINION played better, but i'll hand it to the english for putting up a good fight.

Poor England though, I wanted them to go through.

Yeah well lets god damn hope not, cause that will just make England look like bad losers. If they cause any trouble in Gelsenkirchen (which is pretty much where I live) they should be ashamed. Correct me if im wrong but you sound like you want that to happen!

FAIR!? YOU CALL THAT FAIR? And I thought I was bad at noticing things. Ronaldo was pushing and shoving most of the time, Rooney's arms were grabbed to stop him moving in that incident and the Beckham incident too. Portugal should of at least been down to 9 men. I hope they lose and that Ronaldo gets tortured beyond recognition of humanity. Give him the Iron maiden torture. *laughs* Well the ref was Argentinian, and made so many bad calls and a lack of calls. He isn't the worst we've had but nowhere near best.

Ricardo stopped 3 penalties, and almost caught the fourth one. How can you say it was luck? Penalties are all about training, and keeping yourself calm. Robinson was awful, he jumped to the wrong side in almost all shots.

But, as it was said, England will never win anything with this predictable football. Rooney was alone in the field, Ferdinand uses too many long passes, and Beckham always crosses to the same part of the goal area. England's midfield was probably the best of the WC, but they didn't take advantage of it, so it meant nothing. Better luck - and tactics - next time.

Portugal weren't the best team at all. They couldn't put one goal past 10 men in an hours play. If England had been able to take their chances they would have won, but they didn't. Portugal didn't even have a striker on the pitch for about 20 minutes, so saying "the best team won" is pretty much a lie. Neither team were excellent, but England played far better than Portugal did, except for finishing, and except for Ricardo in the shootout.

    Did they?

Portugal had more shots on goal, slightly more possession (I think; can't remember) and maybe all the stats went in their favour, but I swear, for all the shots and possession they had, few of the shots looked threatening (most of them went wide) and all the possession must've come from passing round the box so much. :/ Bah, I mean, seriously.

England were really unlucky at times (if you believe in luck). Terry, Beckham, Rooney -- whatever the reason. I just really wished that Eriksson (who's...well, I hate him. More woe for the English!) had used Walcott, at least for 3 minutes. :/

That was miserable, losing Rooney and Beckham, two potential penalty-shooters. Great game from Hargreaves, though. That for the critics
This subliminal message could be meant for YOU. But it's probably not. Move along ;D
