Rubbish. I thought Portugal deserved to lose and lose BADLY. Played for damn near 60 minutes versus a 10-man team, and they squandered it. It was pathetic. Penalties was an awful, unfair way for England to go out.

Rooney didn't get sent off for anything violent, he was fighting for the ball with two players, one of the portugese went down and Rooney stood on his balls. Standing on a player when they're down is a sending off. Did he do it on purpose? Did he bollocks. The commentators were trying to make out like he lost his temper and stepped on him, but anyone who isn't blind can see he was trying to keep his balance and it was an accident. Still, we played better after he went off and there were three or four chances where we should have scored. Most obvious one was Aaron Lennon not using enough power to score, but you can't really blame him because he probably didn't want to use too much and spanner it so he overcompensated. The ref was slightly in favour of the Portugese, but you can't blame all it on him. The system we were using wasn't working at all, Rooney and then Crouch pretty much got bollock all support for most of the game, there were more of the same old long ball tactics. Lampard still didn't have his goalscoring touch with him either. Owen Hargreaves played really well defensively and in the second half attacked better as well, never gave up. Aaron Lennon did well when he was on as well, and you can't fault the defence, they were outstanding for the most part. When it comes down to it in the end, bad tactics, bad squad selection and one very good/lucky Portugese goalkeeper are why we're out.
