I assure you, British fish and chips are vastly inferior to those found overseas. I've had fish and chips in many places around the UK and it's not good. Try going to NZ and having fish and chips - then you'll know what 'good' is. The fish and the minced beef are the two worst foods in the UK when compared with that of overseas. Still, I guess if you've never had good fish and chips overseas then you wouldn't know any better, so I can't blame you for thinking it.
