    Default I am INCREDIBLY pissed

While I was playing Halo 2 online, I noticed that I seemed to be lagging a bit, so I shut down my computer for a little while and that resolved the lag. When I rebooted, Windows, before I even logged into my XP computer, said my software was not 'genuine' and asked me to upgrade. Well, when I was about ot do this, microsoft seemed to delete my computer administrator account, with all my music and software on it, and only left my mother's account, which I just added like a week ago because she said she wanted one, and there's absolutely nothing on it. My whole account was deleted with all my music, documents, software, you name it, gone. I checked my computer and saw how much HDD space was left, and it was the same account before this happened. It's because of this damn genuine crap they are marketing out, I KNOW my software is NOT pirated, and they want me to pay $149 to do what? Get upgrades or something? All I want is my account back, THATS IT.

I've never heard of wga disabling an admin account, but I'm not surprised. Go to Torrent Spy and search for "wga". One of the downloads is a cracked dll for the June update. Copy it to your C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory and overwrite the existing file; reboot afterwards. That should bypass the program.

These are temporary fixes, though, until M$ releases a new version of the sofware which happens regularly. My suggestion is to fix your current problem and download the Windows updates from a third-party site.

I'm contemplating that with Sam. The problem is, will this solve my problem of getting my admin account back? Being 'ungenuine' isn't too much of a problem to me; its microsoft deleting my account that is, and if I can just get that back, I could really care less about genuine. But is it more than liekly this is the only way?

I'm at work right now. When I get home I'll tell you which one I used. Or better yet, I could just send you the file since it works for me.

Torrent? Yes, if you could just send it to me via email, that would be awesome. I'm guessing your computer wasn't validated either and didn't want to dish out the $150?

The only reason I don't get rid of that piece of junk OS is because I still play games on it. I understand that proprietary software must be protected, but I really don't give a damn when it comes to a company like Microsoft.

I tried running XP Pro on safe mode, and wouldn't you know it, my old admin account was there. When I start up windows normally, it wasn't there.

if you wait long enough itll say upgrade later. then at the bottom of your screen on the start bar all the way on the left should be a new small icon and you can go and choose your settings to change it so it wont ask anymore.

When you start Windows normally and get to the Welcome screen, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice - it should bring up the old Win2k style logon instead, and see if your old account and password works there

I thought there was an option in TweakUI for XP to show/hide accounts on the welcome screen, but it appears to not exists on my computer where I remember it being

    It's in the logon section.

That's what I thought, but like I said, it's not there for my machine - I only get the choice about the Autoexec.bat Maybe I've changed/disabled something else on my machine ages ago which broke that or something, though it would be nice to know what There's always the registry route to change an account's visibility for me though, which is what BR could do as well if he doesn't have TweakUI for XP
