Did you ever question Brahne's behaviour before you knew the truth about her relation with Kuja? I did. I couldn't understand why she was being so greedy and mean. She seemed so cold and distant to Garnet, her daughter, so naturally I assumed that there was something completely wrong. Brahne eventually went all nuts, and her greed consumed all goodness in her. I actually find her story somewhat sad. She was a victim of Kuja's evil schemes, and she didn't really know what she was doing. Any thoughts on the subject? No spam or pointless comments. xD

I hated the lady! Heck, I wanted her to die! But then, when she got blown to smitherines by Kuja...I DID feel sorry for her because it wasn't fair. Kuja took over her life and ruined it and used it for evil doings. It can't get much worse than that...

I wouldn't say Kuja is entirely to blame. After her husband's death, she was so destroyed by the lose of her love that she became twisted, wishing for nothing more than power and destruction. Kuja simply used this desire for his own gain. So, Kuja can be blamed for some of it, but from what he said about her, she probably would have done it anyway without the mages.

As for her death, I had very little sympathy. Her death was her own fault. Shed seen what Kuja could do, so itwas foolish of her to try and face him, especially when he was still of use. I did have sympathy for Garnet, but not for Brahne.

i always wondered what was wrong with her. Although i did catch the hint that Brahne wasnt her real mother, and i originally thought it was all Brahnes idea to take in this girl and then steal her powers.

I would have loved being able to kick Brahne's ass.

She knew exactly what she was doing. She was using the Eidolons she extracted from Garnet to take power of the many regions of the Myst Continent, and maybe the more after that. She wasn't doing it for the reasons Kuja wanted her to do it, but she was doing it of her own accord. Kuja didn't make Brahne do anything, and he didn't manipulate her into doing anything that she wouldn't have done on her own had she already had the tools and advice Kuja provided. He just pointed her in the right direction, it was her that actually did what she did, and for her own reasons.

It was the way that she acted in the beginning of the game that made me not question if someone else was behind it. And it's not that Kuja was actually behind it, it's more like Kuja was her advisor, she was the one doing everything. He just reaped the benefits.

Nah. Kuja did poison her mind. He appeared just after her husband died, whilst she was vunerable and distraught, and he filled her full of hate. He opened the door for her, and even nudged her in. It's 90% Kuja's fault.

From what I remember in the game, the Mist was what brought out the greed and bloodlust in people, and Kuja was behind the Lifa Tree. Up until she died, I thought Brahne was evil, (Plus I thought she was the main antagonist, and I thought to myself what kind of end boss fight will that make?) but as she lay dying on the beach, I realized that to Kuja, she was just as expendable as the Black Mages, and that her mind was being manipulated. I'm not ashamed, as a man, to say that I shed a tear for her in her last moments.

I mostly agree with that post. But I also hear what SeeDRankLou was saying. He did obviously use her when she was at her most vulnerable, but that does not mean the she doesn't share the responsibility of their actions. Kuja needed her to do his bidding, but the biddings eventually became the consequences of her own actions.

I thought Brahne, the "Elephant Lady", was a character the game made you pretty much hate throughout the first two discs, but when she died, I felt sorry for her. The scenes after that were also quite sad, with Dagger walking away from her mother's grave, looking at her kingdom and realizing that she'd become the new queen now.

Yeah. Admittedly, even when you're over-run with grief, you should still be able to tell the difference between right and wrong. But to me, Brahne didn't seem like the most intelligent person (due to her devious actions being orchestrated by Kuja (wow that sounded cool)), so I think she would have been easily manipulated into doing bad things. Like a child. You tell a young child something's not actually bad and they'll believe you.

Yep, she certainly wasn't very intelligent. I mean sending out Cloud-Like mercs and two clowns to take down Zidane and co. Not best intelligent.

Didn't feel sorry for her one bit.

She always treated Garnet like s***. Not once did she show affection and passion until she was about to die, but even then, I didn't care for her. With how much make-up she puts on, I'm surprised she didn't suffocate and die earlier. Damn!

Seriously though, she didn't seem like a powerful character to me. Pretty boring and predictable, I think.

    Thank you Hysterian!

I disliked her, but I felt so sorry for her when she died. She was just a puppet used by Kuja and Garnet was beyond upset over her mothers death.
