Should there be a pimp smilie

Could someone explain the origins of this, anyway?

My gut tells me it's a staff plot to annoy Raistlin, as so many people are inevitably jealous of and try to tear down true genius, but I'd prefer to hear it told so I know for sure.

Back when Aiyon first started, Yams and I (outside of Daniel) were the biggest posters. Yams, I think, found a .zip file of all the old EzBoard smilies, among which was the pimp smilie. We found the smilie incredibly awesome and used it all of the time. Then I stopped posting at Aiyon and it subsequently died. Daniel has been bitter ever since. :rolleyes2

It was more like this...
1) Lots of people post at Aiyon about all sorts of topics.
2) You and yams go hardcore "add the pimp!!!!", changing every topic and it's third cousin into a pimp discussion.
3) Pretty much everyone stopped posting because they found it annoying. About five regulars remained to 'see it out'.
4) You two stopped posting, and three regulars do not keep a message board afloat.
5) Aiyon died.

If you never did all that pimp stuff then it never would have died because all those people wouldn't have been put off (and they DID message me saying they were put off by it).

However! That's old news, I'm not bitter - I never bring it up, I just correct your misinformation when you do.

I didn't like the pimp before Aiyon's forums existed. Hence me not adding it at Aiyon. So that's not the reason I don't like it. I don't like it because I don't like the promotion of smoking, I don't like pimps, I think it's overrated, overused, overdone, etc. and it's so very much past it's "cool before" date.

That... and I do like doing anything Raistlin doesn't want me to do, and not doing anything he does want me to do. Raistlin is like The Man, only he's still around!

Promoting smoking is worse. Drinking alcohol in moderate amounts on a regular basis has been proven to be a healthy thing to do, and it's also entirely possible that the drinks they have are non-alcoholic anyway. The usage of guns is not bad unless you use them to kill. People go to firing ranges all the time and if they want to do that, that's okay. As for the trout thing, that's actually made out of a very soft foamy material which wouldn't hurt at all. the reason that there is red around the other guy's eye is purely due to lighting.

Smoking, however... not cool!

What if the pimp is smoking weed? Weed's been proven not to be harmful, and can also be considered healthy, if controlled.

Also, is it really considered "promoting"? We're not telling anybody to smoke... It's just a smilie.

Weed is an illegal drug in most countries and we will most certainly not encourage people to break the law!

And smilies are seen as role models to young children. When they see people using the pimp smilie to suggest that they are cool, they mostly notice that the pimp is smoking, and therefore think "aha, to be cool, I need to smoke." It's a sad tale that lead to the lung cancer and eventual death of poor Timmy Baxter, who did love his smilies so.

Hey, this poll is biased! I refuse to vote unless someone adds a fourth option ("I don't care. I use other smilies.") there. Don't make Mr. Smiles sad.

Also, in my opinion both the Pimp smiley and the Wasim Akram smiley suck, and it's better to keep both of those out of the EoFF smiley list. People can always use remote links if they really have to use them in their posts. I've always thought that those two smileys should be used in moderation simply because they lose the "comedy" value they have if they're used too frequently; after all, timing is essential in humour, and using the smileys too often just ruins the effect they're meant to have.

I agree. It takes only a few seconds to link the Pimp smiley remotely, and I'm sure people won't use the smiley as often as I use smileys in my posts, so remote linking shouldn't frustrate them.

I think we should get rid of and i might also add the lol smilie is crossed so whats the point of having it?, Replace it with the pimp

But that Tumbleweed smiley is one of the greatest smileys ever! And that reminds me that I should add a scene like that to my tGA fanfic at some point.

The tumbleweed smiley is there for a reason, because when you ask someone to do something or someone says that they will do something and then one week later it's not done, there is nothing more perfect for a post than a tumbleweed smiley.

EDIT: Which makes it rather surprising that it's not used in almost every Site Staff thread in existence.

Dude, I'm suprised people haven't literally shown my face in this thread, they always seem to do it when 'pimp' gets mentioned. I think they got it out of their systems in the other thread about this stuff, though.

I just looked over the list, and it's true! The people who voted for it to be brought back really do have opinions that don't matter!

Oddly enough, only three staffers had voted in the poll. Staff presence isn't what it used to be, folks. I remember the days when I could look at any poll and see over half the staff had voted in it... oh yes, I can remember.

Don't mind me, I'm extremely stubborn. It gets worse than this, especially on things that I feel strongly about, I assure you. Everyone in Staff has all these awesome amazing fun ideas all the time and I hold them all back. I'm so nasty.
