I liked how you could freely explore the world when you got the Airship. Walking through dungeons, leveling up, getting all the treasures, but still you didn't have to get on with the storyline. So I went through the Gurgu Volcano, the Sea Shrine and the Mirage Tower / Sky Castle but didn't beat the bosses. Then I just beat them in quite an opposite order, meaning I had my class changed level 45+ party with Excalibur, Sun/Defence Sword, level 8 spells and whatnot defeat Kary/Malirith.

The graphics on the old NES. Somehow, even against the remakes, the original on the NES seems to cary more spirit, the sketchy graphics adding to the adventure more than any 3D graphics ever could.

The part when you can finally get the class change. It was a bit more exciting on the old NES version though because it was more challenging and more worth it in the end.

For me it's how simple and streamlined the game is by today's standards. No 80 hour sidequests, no horribly inappropriate slap-fight mini game to be suddenly confused by, just straight up, old school RPG goodness.

Watching the characters move about, especially in battle, seeing them scuttle around when attacking and whatnot. I also liked watching the instant transformation of having my character standing and then once he died, he instanly falls face-first to the ground. No animation at all - just standing BAM dead.

But the thing I found the most memorable was talking with the guards outside of Cornelia.

    "Welcome to Cornelia."
    "Welcome to Cornelia."
    "Welcome to Cornelia."
    "Welcome to Cornelia."

For all eternity, you can talk about being welcomed to Cornelia.

The strange thing, is that if people are familiar with 8-Bit, he makes the same connection with these guards, so I musn't be the only one who found thee two NPCs entertaining.

Extra Dungeons in the DoS Version. Also I like how the game feels like it's always yours.
