I had a girlfriend in Australia once. Australia is a different country than New Zealand. I moved there for a while to meet her. I stayed with an uncle who rented out a room in his house to me (which was really cool of him because he didn't know me that well). I got to experience living and working in a different country (though the differences may be subtle) so I have no regrets.
