    Where do you gain money?

Right now I'm fighting around in FF1, because I'm collecting money for all this expensive and great stuff (CatClaw, Gold Bracelet, FADE, NUKE and so on), and I've found out that this Red Dragon in the Gurgu Volcano is really nice, because he always hands over a whopping 4000 Gil after every battle.
Moreover, I'm at LV20, and at that point he isn't even that hard anymore.
However, I'd still like to hear some alternatives, because fighting him all the time might get boring.
I thought the Eye in the Ice Cave was great (easy as hell and dropped 3225 Gil), as was the entire Water Shrine.

Do you know of anything else?

If you just play through the Mirage Tower and Floating Castle, you should never have money problems again. But most people use the Eye in the Ice Cave.

Gas Dragons give 5000 G each and you can fight four dragons at once in the Temple of Fiends.

There's always Warmech, but unless you get lucky and find him quickly you'd probably be much faster fighting anything else.

Think I bought everything before entering the mirage tower/Flying Fortress.. or whatever your version likes to name it

    This was on Origins normal.
By the time I had beaten Tiamat... think I had over 300k but memory is fuzzy.

Above poster is right about the wind dungeon.

like many RPGs, by the time you don't have anything left to buy.. money rains from the sky.

In short, if you run through Tiamat's dungeon, you'll be able to buy anything you need from Gaia probably, unless you have 4 mages.
    The treasure chests are loaded.
However you may want prorings before you go in there... Hence the "Money after I needed it 2hrs ago" comment I will make

Well personally, everytime I play, I beat Lich, then get the floater, then class up, then go to the waterfall and get the cube, then go to the water shrine and get the tablet, then get the chime at Lefein, then go to the floating castle and get the Adamant, and typically beat Tiamat, then get Xcalibur, then beat Kary, then beat Kraken. IN THAT ORDER. SO I typically never have money problems because I just go through getting tons of treasure before actually doing any bosses.

Red Dragon in Gurgu Volcano is quite dangerous as far as I remember. He hits for a lot of damage and his fire attack hurts even more. The Eye is a good enemy, but it's a bit hard to get to the bottom of the Ice Cave and he can hit you with instant death spells (although he'll hit you very rarely if you're equipped with ProRings). My favorite enemies for leveling up are Zombie Dragons in front of the throne in the Castle of Ordeals. They'll give you both EXP and Gil quickly, you can encounter with whenever you want to and they aren't too dangerous or hard to kill.

if memory serves they hit for about 1-50 damage on Knight or more.
    and 30-100? on mage

They have a decent max hit.. certainly not as dangerous as their spell casting brethern.... but still not better than Eye imo.

I preferred Zombie Dragons to the Eye when leveling my 50 black belt solo Origins run.. just because of the instant death chance... even if its low.

Eye is a typical one hit kill... and very fast. Typically won't damage you.

Zombie Dragons will slowly hurt you, but no instant death.

I foght at the Temple of Fiends and I never had any money problems. Beacause worms handed out 2000 g a piece and I killed in one hit. No magic or life was wasted. Then I fought Frost D's which were extremely easy after level 20.

Evil Eye is probably one of the better monsters to kill, as you can consistently walk onto his spiked square which is much faster than spending time walking around waiting for an encounter.

    It should be noted.

If you play easy origins and maybe DoS(can't remember money figures at the moment) that money comes slower in those versions.

    What I mean by this.

I think there is a 20% or 40% reduction in cost of items.. cant remember the exact number..

However you gain levels twice as fast...

In the time it takes you to gain a level, you gain X gold.
Now you gain levels 2x as fast... so you get X/2 gold.

    Now items cost 20%-40% less

lets say X is 1000 gold.

Let say the item you want it 1000 gold on NES

on NES you get the level, and have the gold to buy it.

On Origins Easy, you get the level and only have 500gold.
    The item is 1000 - 20-40% which is 600-800gold.

From a leveling up perspective. a level 15 Origins easy party won't be able to buy as much stuff as a level 15 NES/Origins normal party.

Just thought i'd throw that in there.
I'll recheck it later.. but pretty sure its round about there on %

I only raaly noticed at certain spots. Elfland and the Vampire town in particular(God that Knight armor cost a fortune!). But i played a 4 fighter once and after the obnoxios vamp town i couldnt spend the money fast enough! I'm stuck on Chaos and i wiash i could buy more potions as even though i dont use them i hate throwing money on the ground! But yeah only early game do u notice it.

Although on a side note if u goto they have a movie called 8-bit theater where the blackmage states "So that he may buy wepons and armor vastly inferior to what we will find on the road"
    "Swordchucks Yo." - Fighter

"Every time I cast Hadoken it siphons a little bit of love out of the world to create a massive destructive explosions. They say the divorce rate goes up with each cast." - BM

How many swords could sword chucks chuck if sword chucks could chuck swords? Same goes with Nuns! :rolleyes2

    "I cast Ice-9!" -RM

"I can steal stuff that isn't even there" -Thief (Yet he can't steal in the game)
